Hi, I'm a new member. I am 55 years old and my first outbreak of psoriasis was when I went to university at 18. Since then I have had the usual range of treatments but always stuck to topical remedies and one course of uvb. To date I have been lucky as my psoriasis has never itched too much and I had learned to live with it. Apart from applying diprobase 2 time a day I did little else. Last summer it disappeared completely and I thought that I had got rid of it! Unfortunately it came back with a vengeance in october and vaseline was the only way I could moisturise it sufficiently. I resorted to vaseline at the end of the year and it started to clear up. Around this time I developed some very itchy bumps on my shoulders and back. There are not very many but they itch like crazy. I have applied betnovate to calm them down a little and have an appointment with a dermatologist in a couple of weeks. I think that the vaseline may be responsible as it can cause heat rash type symptoms but the itchy bumps have been there almost a month now. has anybody else experienced something like this?? Thanks.

Hello caprime  Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

It could be so many things. On first reading I would have said Heat Bumps, but it is so difficult to say. I would wait till you see your dermatologist in a couple of weeks to get a proper diagnoses.

You say "usual range of treatments but always stuck to topical remedies and one course of uvb" so I'm guessing you have not tried any of the oral treatments yet ? If that is the case I would suggest you have a read up here: Oral Treatments For Psoriasis And arm yourself with some information on what you would like to go for.

Psoriasis has many forms and you can find out more here: Types Of Psoriasis Explained But I would say wait till you see your dermatologist and have a plan from the oral treatments that you would like to try.

Regards.

Fred.

Hi Caprime  Welcome to the club you will find us a very friendly group af fellow sufferers and we are always pleased to share any our experiences and offer each other advice.

As has been said it could be heat bumps but it's difficult to tell for sure but your dermatologist should know when he sees it ...I would be inclined to leave the Vaseline alone until it's been seen....you could try a good quality virgin coconut oil it's used by many of us here as a moisturiser

Meantime enjoy the site and you will find lots of good advice in the health boards

Thanks...both of you. I saw a dermatologist about two years ago to run through options but as I said, given that my psoriasis didn't itch, I had learned to live with it. It seems much more aggressive lately. The vaseline was a last resort and the only thing that gave me relief. It is a little calmer now and I am back to using diprobase but the itchy bumps persist. Anyway, only a week to wait till appointment. Thanks again.

Welcome

I haven't had it the way you described, however I also had learned to live with it. For me it was mostly scalp and ear areas which would never fully clear but get really close, then it would get a little worse but with moisturizing it was manageable. However about a month or so back I was hit with a pretty bad flare. Again mostly scalp and ears although a little down my back and at elbows.

It's possible it's something else but wouldn't surprise me if it's your psoriasis flaring up. It may stay as it is or get better again or get worse, I honestly think psoriasis is as unpredictable as the weather!!

It will be interesting to see what your dermatologist has to say about it.

Best of luck and again, Welcome to the club!
