Hey!

I am a 23 year old from Australia. I have had psoriasis under my arms and on my hairline since 2015, but as of last week (25/3/18) I was officially diagnosed with psoriasis after a flare-up.
I have it on my hairline, behind my ears, scalp, on my eye lid and now under my eyes.

I am self conscious about it, despite it being relatively minor, I am doing well-ish to keep it under control with 1% corticosteroids.

Outside of Psoriasis I am working for one of Australias biggest utilities in their innovation department and am studying a masters of entrepreneurship.

Hi and welcome to the club, you have found probably the friendliest Psoriasis forum on the planet. I’m sorry to hear you have Psoriasis on your face, I have had it there myself and it does make you self conscious, it’s good you have got it under control.
Have a good look around the site there is lots of information on treatments and diets that can help, if you have a question or can’t find something just shout and someone will soon answer
Living in Australia do you find the sun helps ? As UV is good for Psoriasis

Hi!

Thanks for that very warm introduction. I have already started having a look around and found that coconut oil is a good moisturizer  Wink

I'll no doubt be asking a question soon!

Yes, most definitely! During late December and January I was at my local beach about every 2nd or 3rd day for a max of 2 hours. I did actively notice my skin was the best it had been for a while. I noticed I had very little to no redness/dandruff from psoriasis (usually I'll have redness on my forehead constantly), mild tan (I am normally very white) and glowing skin. At that point I hadn't been diagnosed so I wasn't using moisturizer.

I try and get a minimum of 10 minutes of sunlight a day now, sometime between 10am and 2pm. I don't know how much that will do, but I know UV helps. So hopefully doing it consecutively everyday, it'll do something over time.

Where are you from Jim?

Hey Jared,

Welcome to psoriasisclub.
You are very young, even younger than me, and yet you already have Psoriasis. That is nasty. Be careful with it. You have already found the coconut oil, i see.  A great natural moisturiser.
In that sense be careful with the ointments that contain corticosteroids, they seem to help, but in the end they will thin your skin and you really don’t want that. If you can avoid it, please do. Read the story of Jim about it. The dermatologist may prescribe it, but it’s not his/hers skin otherwise they would be more sensible.

It is unpredictable what the Psoriasis will do in the long run. Maybe it will stay like it is. There seems to be a relation between stress and flare ups, so you can take that knowledge with you and stay calm.   Big Grin  Big Grin

Always good to be here at Psoriasis club, where you can get rid of stress and talk with others who have experienced the same.
Anyway, have fun over here with us.

Cheers,
Caroline

I asked the doctor about that she told me that your skin can reverse/heal, unless its long abuse of the steroids.
I was doing alot of reading on the internet and found that it should only be used at a maximum of twice a day for 4 weeks - I use it for a day or two and my skin clears up. So, I don't think I'll run into any problems... atleast I hope!!!

I also have a question regarding diet, more specifically milk! I guess this isn't the best place to ask and I am sure there are threads around it, so I'll go have a look.

Otherwise, thank you for that nice little intro!! I am very glad to be here :Smile

Hello Jared  Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

Yes it can make one self conscious about it especially at a young age, I first got it at 25 and it hit me like hell. But I found accepting it and talking about it helped.

Re the sun, these threads may help:
Free Psoriasis Treatment
Vitamin D the natural way.

And for the diet you may want to read some threads here: Natural Treatments For Psoriasis especially How I Cured My Psoriasis By Diet

Just ask away and enjoy yourself here, we don't care what you look like so don't feel self conscious amongst us.

Regards.

Fred.

Hi Jared and welcome to the Club Wave

This disease can be really cruel particularly when it is visible it can really sap your self confidence and wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

I'm with Caroline regarding the creams. They can make a real mess of your skin over time. I've never been able to tolerate them. I could only manage 3 or 4 days on Dovobet then it became like applying battery acid, all the treated blotches became very red and angry.

As for diet, there are various thoughts on the subject from members, some swear by it, but in general not many appear to be able to regulate the Ps through diet alone - just remember it will never cure it.

Anyways we are a friendly bunch and there is generally somebody lurking, there are several antipodean members that should be awake at the same time.

Hi Jared,

The norm with psoriasis, as with most disease, is sticking with the same treatment. If your psoriasis gets worse and all you use is a steroid cream then you will likely damage your skin: Many do so. When you say "officially diagnosed", does that mean you are seeing a dermatologist? If so then well done.

Cheers

Luckily for me it's just small red blotches on my face, so I only use the 1% for 3 days max at a time and it disapears.

Diet, well, I am already on a gluten free diet as I have Coeliac Disease, so restricting it further would be a pain. I have had milk every single morning, eggs and tuna almost everyday and never had a flare up. So I think food is fine Smile
