Hello.

Does UV sunbed treatment for psoriasis at hospital still exist for patients in 2018 ?

I had this UV treatment in the 1980's but have always wondered how much radiation my body was exposed to ..........  Cool

I remember going to hospital every week and laying on a sunbed with dark protective glasses on , I was too young to remember for how long the sessions lasted.

Anyone else done this ?

I've not used one, but they do still prescribe light treatment. What I know of them though they are much different to the old days of one big light bulb which is what I was given many years ago.

Today I think you stand up in the them for just a few minutes, but most say you can only have it for a few times.

Maybe others will know more.

Hello Fred.

Yes things must have changed so much since the 70's and 80's.

The UV light dosage is probably much less than it used to be , but the UV treatment did work back then.

Yes it’s still prescribed but it is a short term fix as the Psoriasis usually comes back after a while

Last time I had it it was a stand up booth with an array of tubes you start with a few seconds and gradually build up but not to many minutes

I’ll put a note in the newsletter and see if others might respond Thumb

Yes it is still used also in the Netherlands. But the dermatologists of now have learned a lot. There are dermatologists who are specialised in skin cancer and they are leading the way in a controlled and sensible use of UV-therapy. They are nowadays very aware that each form of UV (A and B) is accumulating in the skin.
By the way, you can also go outside to the nude beach, that has the same effect and is cheaper. Don’t go too long however.  NoNo

Nothing.... but in order to understand you should read A different than normal treatment for Psoriasis called Auto-vaccination and at least the first part of my journal that I wrote in [Group Specific].
You can read them now as you already have enough posts.

Hello Caroline.

Yes I can see your journal is "many pages" so I will have to read through it in the coming week , it is nice to see what treatments folks have gone through. I have had no treatment for about 25 years and have just used T-gel for my scalp which works ok.
I find the summer months are usually better for me and the UV rays fight off the psoriasis .

I have never met anyone that had arthritic psoriasis until I met a local guy who has had to stop work because of the pain.
