G'day everyone!

Ive been on here for a little while however have just decided to post my first thread.

I've had arthritis since I was 18 (im 27 now). It was thought that I had rheumatoid and so I was put on Humira when I was about 20. It worked like magic for about 5 years. I forgot that I even had anything.

Unfortunately, after 5 years, it started wearing off and I also suddenly I developed psoriasis (which I think was probably due to the humira). So now my diagnosis is PSA

Just recently (5 moths ago) I've been put on Consentyx and its worked well for the psoriasis with most of it gone, however the arthritis isnt great, especially in my knees. There's fluid build up.

The doctor is thinking of changing me onto something else but the sheer thought of the psoriasis coming back is depressing -.- Stuck between a rock and hard place.

Just wondering if anyone has been on Cosentyx and whether it has taken this long for it work for PSA

G’day omgmoe nice to see you have decided to introduce yourself .. I’m sorry to hear you are having problems with your Psoriatic arthritis, and the Cosentyx doesn’t seem to help ... I’m not sure how long it takes to kick in on the arthritis but I would think that after 5 months it should have worked , but we are all different and drugs work differently on different people
I hope it starts to work on the arthritis soon or if it doesn’t there are alternatives that should work on the Psoriasis and the arthritis
I’m sure others with experience of Cosentyx will offer advice soon
Good luck and welcome to the club

Hello omgmoe Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

Cosentyx did and still does work wonders for me in relation to psoriatic arthritis, unfortunately there is no one suits all when it comes to treatment. It's all about trial and error to find the one that works best for you, so it may be worth asking about one of the others.

See list here: Biological Treatments For Psoriasis

Re fluid build up in your knees, it could be worth asking about having them drained. I thought for a long time one of mine was down to psoriatic arthritis till one day a doctor said it needed draining, I wish I had have had it done sooner. So ask your doctor about draining.

Pleased to see you decided to post an intro after lurking for a while, you will (or may have already) find a friendly bunch so just dive on in.

Regards.

Fred.

Hi omgmoe and welcome to the Club.  Wave
Sorry I can't be any help with the Cosentyx, I am fortunately not bad enough to warrant bios (yet).
Please don't be a stranger now you have raised your head above the parapet you will find us friendly and helpful, no trolling, adverts or dodgy cures pushed. But there are one or two of us a butty short of a picnic and can readily be found in the bar for a bit of light hearted banter - or a rant if that's what you need.

Hi omgmoe  , welcome to the club, I am taking Stelara at the moment and my dermatologist is thinking about putting me on Cosentyx but first he is going to reduce my Stelara to every ten weeks to see if it helps, however due to the complete uselessness of the NHS I was really bad at the moment as I was 18 days past my 12 week injection slot. I took the Stelara last Monday and I am amazed just how good it is on the PsA as I thought that the Stelara wasn't working as well but I now realise it's my PsA that has got worse so if your dermatologist suggested Stelara as an alternative it's certainly works on PsA than I originally thought.

Thanks all for your warm welcome.

I saw the rheumatologist today and had my knees drained.

He was shocked at how well the cosentyx was working for the psoriasis that he's decided to leave me on it til the end of the year.

He also floated the idea of being on 2 biologics :/ Didn't even know that was possible. Has anyone ever done that?

He said if the arthritis doesn't get better by the end of the year, he is considering changing me to Stelara. Only bad thing with that is that if Stelara doesn't work, might be hard to convince insurance to put me back on cosentyx :(

Its a waiting game!

Might also add that he wanted me to try either Methotrexate or leflunomide, both of which I have tried before and made me really sick.

I refused to go on them.

Has anyone else not been unwell on methotrexate or is it just me? because everytime I see him, he says it might help and asks if Im willing to give it another try...

Great you had your fluid drained off and the Cosentyx is working well on the Psoriasis.

Methotrexate disagreed with me and made me feel so ill I had to give it up , I would not go on it again  Confused

Good that you got the fluid drained.

Not heard of two Bio's being used.

Methotrexate sick

If you put methotrexate in the Search and choose "Search Titles Only" you will get a lot of results both good and bad, but my guess would be mostly bad. *You need to be logged in to use the Search.
