Had a few days where we basically pretended Psoriasis was a not a thing in our lives.  It was blissful but now I am crashing. The face P is the most crushing. Getting closer to going the Stelera route but he is just so young ? I been looking for info on Elidel as a doctor friend told me it could be be good. I can’t  find anything on here.  Has anyone here tried it?

Hi I think the reason there is no mention of it here is probably because Elidel is a treatment for atopic dermatitis. I have had a look and think I would hesitate before using it as a treatment for Psoriasis. As it has got some nasty side effects listed.
That’s just my opinion and I have sent you a private message

I’m sorry, I’ve not heard of it before. I looked it up, sounds like fairly serious stuff!

* don’t act on following comment without consulting dermatologist *

I was told by my nhs derm that I could use 1% hydrocortisone on my face, which I did using a cotton bud to get it only on affected skin. I was very surprised because of all the skin thinning warnings but basically she said not to try any other steroid creams but 1% would be fine. Although steroid creams no longer really work on the rest of me, this did work for me.

But as I say, please don’t act on this without asking the derm, especially as he’s a minor. I hope he gets some relief soon.

I'm horrified to report that our first derm prescribed clobetasol for his face. The most potent steroid possible. We still use it very very sparingly occasionally as the second derm just gave us a bigger subscription. After discovering recently that this was terrible for him I went to our doctor and asked for something lighter and he gave us 2.5 hydrocortisone.
Again I am using this sparingly. The new derm just recommended stelara the first visit with out really looking at my sons skin. I now dont really trust that any of them really know what they are doing. We have an appointment next week with the derm but I just feel.... Wall

I think Dermatologists have a difficult job, particularly with young skin and unfortunately they seem to have a protocol to follow which tends to start with topical creams of which the vitamin d derivatives like Dovonex (calcipotrol)is probably the safest (in my opinion ) then on to the steroid creams before systemic tablet treatments like Methotrexate, acetretin, Skilarence etc. Before going to biologicals

However saying all that if I was offered Stelara for a child of 13 I’m sure I would go with it as it’s relatively safe ( every drug has risks ) and Stelara I think is a good one that doesn’t scare me as much as some of the tablet ones
I suggest you keep reading here and asking questions
And go to see the dermatologist with some knowledge of what questions to ask

No offence but your "Doctor Friend" is not the right person to recommend a treatment for you son. NoNo

Thanks Jim! Will do. I did like that he told me he would write a prescription for Methotrexate (because he has to) but not to give it as he thought it was unsafe. He also actually listened to me and gave me a big chunk of his time so I shouldn't give him a hard time. Its just all so scary at times.

That is true, but in her defence she has MS and takes a very potent biologic so I feel at least understands the emotional aspect, and loves my son. But yes you are right   Big Grin as usual. Sorion did nothing by the way. I keep forgetting to tell you that you were right on the money with that.

Well at least you speak from experience, so next time the questions is asked you can hopefully help stop others wasting their money. Thumb
