Treatment: tanning and diet in process if getting Cosentyx

Hello,
I've been reading posts on here for maybe a couple months and am finally doing my introduction.
I was born w/psoriasis. I turned 50 yesterday. I've had psoriatic arthritis about 10 yrs but didn't realize that's what it was.
I've been trying to manage it all with diet and lifestyle, also tanning beds. However, the progression of symptoms made me realize I could no longer manage this horrible disease on my own.
Skipping ahead, my dermatologist got me samples of Cosentyx in hopes it would be approved by my insurance but they want me to try Humira first.
My first loading does of Cosentyx began on 8/24/18 and did all 5 weeks before the insurance denial. I did just 150 mg instead of 300 mg.
My psoriasis started clearing so quickly. It was amazing. It didn't do anything noticeable for the psoriatic arthritis. No noticeable side effects.
I will be starting Humira, assuming all goes as planned. I hear Humira works pretty well for psoriatic arthritis and I'm trying to ignore the negative stuff I read about it.
This forum seems amazing.

Hello Nancy,

Welcome to Psoriasisclub.
I am happy that you found us and decided to join us.
We are a group of people who found each other and we are from all over the world, sharing our experiences and trying to support each other.

If you having Psoriasis since birth, then it seems to me that there is a genetic cause involved, is that correct? Did/do your parents have it also?

Very inconvenient that the Psoriactic Arthritis popped up also. Most of the Cosentyx users do see that it also helps for Psoriactic Arthritis.
Well let’s hope that at least the Humira will give you some relief.

Have fun over here with us.

Cheers,
Caroline

Hi Nancy  Welcome to the club!

Happy birthday for yesterday!!  Hope you had a lovely day celebrating......

Sorry to hear that you have been suffering with psoriasis since birth and now psa and really hope that you can get the treatment(s) to give you a little respite with both..... By comparison I have only been diagnosed just over a year and with a totally different psoriasis - pustular.

This is a fabulous group with lots of lovely people on here who will always offer support and advice from experience so you will have a great time having a look around..... Also the Off Topic threads are really good and where there is often lots of banter and fun discussions..... You should head over to the bar at some point there are normally a few drinks vouchers lying around for whatever is your tipple Whistle

Welcome on board!

I hope the humira works well for you and keeps up the clearance that cosentyx started to give and hope it works well on the psoriatic arthritis.
As Caroline and Wooley have already said feel free to join us in the off topic section for a bit of fun or a virtual drink in the bar

Hello Nancy  Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

I'm pleased to see you have decided to join us after a bit of lurking. It's always difficult to join a forum as a newbie, but you will find us all a friendly bunch and we will never have any trolls or bullies on here. They soon get thrown out the door, so dive on in an enjoy.

If you do want to get to know more of our members you will often find a few lurking around the [Group Specific] board. I'm the sensible one in there by the way.

Shame about the Cosentyx it has worked wonders for me with psoriatic arthritis, but we are all different. Humira as you may know goes after a different target so as Cosentyx didn't work Humira may turn out to be the one that does. I found it to be very good for psoriatic arthritis, but I had a reaction to it and can no longer take the TNF Bio's.

Good luck and don't hesitate to start a thread about your journey in Prescribed Treatments For Psoriasis if you wish. It's a good way of keeping a record and your information could help others.

Oh and Happy Birthday for yesterday.

Regards.

Fred.

Happy Birthday and welcome Nancy. Sorry to hear that you have started with the PsA as well as having P. It's a dam awful problem to have but we are all in the same boat here so any questions answered are from people who are speaking from experience plus there are no con artists trying to sell you "magic" cures on here , mind you most on here are crazy but if you overlook that aspect you will be among friends.
Welcome
