Quote:
The recommended starting dose of Cosentyx for adult patients is 300 mg at weeks 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4. After the starting dose, the recommended maintenance dose of Cosentyx for adult patients with psoriatic arthritis is 300 mg every 4 weeks. (Some patients may be on 150 mg maintenance dose)

The way I read it is that 300 would be the starting dose for all, but the maintenance could be reduced to 150 if it is only for treating psoriasis. So my thinking is that you should be on 300mg and not 150 mg to get you going.  91

I know the nurse told me I'd be doing 2 shots so by that I'm assuming they'll start me on the 300 mg.  But I had to go back and read what was on the site to make sure I didn't say it wrong and found a bit more info on what the Cosentyx site says

Edits in red which are my thoughts on it.

From their website under prescribing information:

Plaque Psoriasis • Recommended dosage is 300 mg by subcutaneous injection at Weeks 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 followed by 300 mg every 4 weeks. For some patients, a dose of 150 mg may be acceptable. (2.1) [This goes with what Fred says as I think it reads that the 150 mg would be acceptable as a maintenance dose although it's not really clear on if it means the loading dosage as well]

Psoriatic Arthritis  • For psoriatic arthritis patients with coexistent moderate to severe plaque psoriasis, use the dosage and administration for plaque psoriasis. (2.1) • For other psoriatic arthritis patients administer with or without a loading dosage. The recommended dosage:  o With a loading dosage is 150 mg at weeks 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 and every 4 weeks thereafter o Without a loading dosage is 150 mg every 4 weeks  o If a patient continues to have active psoriatic arthritis, consider a dosage of 300 mg. (2.2)
[Interesting]

Ankylosing Spondylitis • Administer with or without a loading dosage. The recommended dosage: o With a loading dosage is 150 mg at weeks 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 and every 4 weeks thereafter o Without a loading dosage is 150 mg every 4 weeks (2.3) [This is for a condition for spinal arthritis, had to look it up]

I am on a bio but that is Stelara however my dermatologist is looking to move me on to  Cosentyx so I am very interested in anyone moving on to it, mind you as Fred said we are all different and have different reactions to the treatments .
Have a good look around and ask any questions as they will be answered by people who have the same problems so will be based on experience. No adverts or con merchants tying to sell rubbish we do have however the nuttiest people you can come across but these same people are the friendliest  you will find and they support one another with a vengeance.

Hello D Foster. Thank you for the nice warm welcome.  I first started out with Methotrexate. I had no trouble with Methotrexate until my labs started to come back bad so my Rhematologist switched me to Enbrel. I was on Enbrel for about 8 months and I was still having severe scalp psoriasis and my joints were still giving me trouble. Rhematologist switched me to Cosentyx. She said that a lot of people were having great success on it. Only been on it a week though. Btw I love nutty people!  Big Grin
Have a great day!

Thanks for this info Fred.  I’ll definitely talk to my Rhematologist on the 20th to see her thoughts on starting me out on the 150 mg.  Thumb

THi Sadie welcome to psoriasis club. I am sorry to hear of your sickness after injecting cosentyx.  I had some initial side effects of stomach pains, these turned out to be a problem with my gallbldder eventually.  I lost 10kg in a few months but my psoriasis cleared in that time period.  Like others have said I would try to stay with it but if you find the same happens next month try to speak with your dermatologist- best wishes
Marcia x
