Hi myno..... Welcome to the club, I'm glad your search pointed you to us. In my opinion the best place in the internet for unbiased information about the disease
All I can do is agree with what's been said before and suggest as John did that you get your GP to refer you to a dermatologist as they can offer more and better treatments, in the meantime if you are unhappy with the smell of the treatment that you are on tell your GP it doesn't fit in with your work or private life I assume it's a coal tar smell. My experience of coal tar based shampoo is that the smell soon fades and is not greatly noticeable after a while. Your gp can offer you other creams that won't smell

Enjoy your time here and as has been said if you have a question just shout

Welcome!

Sorry don't know much about the cream you are using, maybe think of it as a test for your date, if he sticks around then maybe he's a keeper! Big Grin

I do agree with Fred that you should get a dermatologist, you will find there are many treatments available. Creams and ointments seem to only work short term (at least that's been my experience.)

Hope you're flake free soon!

Hi nice to meet you! Wave

I looked it up and your treatment is basically coal tar. I was presented with it when I first got P and I dutifully used it in the bath etc as you say (not easy as I was a student living in student accommodation at the time!) - and it stung like mad! I did not get on with it at all.

In my case the doc rapidly moved me on to steroid cream. Times have moved on and I don’t know what yours will offer you but it will probably be trying out a variety of topical treatments before they will refer you on to the dermatologist.
Hopefully you will find something that gives relief.

Now, there’s a lot of people who rightly say to be very cautious about steroid creams, but at that time it really did help me and cleared up my P which didn’t reappear for some time, so if you get given it, follow the instructions carefully.

Good luck and hope you enjoy it here!
