so just recently got the diagnosis- 66 years old newly retired Registered Nurse now with flaking scalp & some inverse psoriasis- now my toenails are showing some major issues- had my thyroid removed for cancer about 5 years ago- endocrinologist super conservative- advised me not to take Biotin & limit my intake of Vit D- says it binds to the Synthroid & is crazy about increasing my dose- I can't lose weight and am feel so down - Dermatologist wanted to start me on Taltz but now being on Medicare I have a part D (pharmacy) plan that is not great with coverage- will cost me over $3,000.00 out of pocket- too expensive & don't qualify for the patient assistance program- wanted to see if anyone has had good results from dietary restrictions and supplements

Thanks all  Wave

Hello Mcduffy1  Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

I can't help in answer to the cost of Taltz in the USA, but I think there are ways you can get financial help. Maybe one of our American members will know more.

As for dietary and/or supplements, you may find something here: Natural Treatments For Psoriasis

*I will move this post to a new thread in introductions as it is better suited there.

Regards.

Hello Mcduffy and a warm welcome to the club Wave .

As I am in the UK, I'm sorry but I have no clue how the American system works, It just looks way too complicated for me Blush

Fred has already pointed you in the direction of the natural treatment thread and there have been a few people who  have had some success moderating their Psoriasis through diet. Sadly I have no where near enough self control to do that.

If you have any questions just ask. There is generally someone lurking in the shadows. Also there is a healthy Off Topic section if you just want to kick your shoes off for a quick chat or a good rant. We all have had the odd one or two and it does help to get it out of your system Thumb

You are welcome. We know what it's like when you get newly diagnosed, this thread may help a little Top tips for newly diagnosed psoriasis patients

But just shout out and ask questions, none of us are doctors but we sure know what it's like to live with psoriasis.

Hi Mcduffy and welcome  Welcome  to the club it's a shame your system in the states is difficult when your Dr prescribes something and your insurance won't sanction it . Over here we have a different system thank goodness
But you need some advice on ways forward and until someone comes with other ideas have a look at this thread How I Cured My Psoriasis By Diet
I'll mention this in our next newsletter that goes out at the end of the month

By the way if you wish you could subscribe to the free newsletter by clicking Groups and then clicking on join group

Good luck

Hello,

You will find pretty much every treatment discussed here and supportive people ready to answer questions based on experience. My treatments are experimental, so not much use I am afraid. I have never had much success with alternative treatments and diet, but the one lesson I have learned from thirty odd years with psoriasis is the importance of being willing to give things a go. Scientific evidence of efficacy is extremely important, but you cannot foresee what will work for you.

Cheers

Thanks to all of you- I am busy reading all the posts from the group- forgot to also mention that I also had been diagnosed with vitiligo - happened after a round of antibiotics needed for a dog bite that became infected so limits me from going out in the sun - not good since I live in sunny Arizona....hard not to get down when not happy at allwith my reflection
