hi my name is Jessica and I have a friend that has severe psoriasis all over his body and we got onto the subject of me cooking for him and he told me to look up psoriasis diet so I did, I have a few friends that have it only a little so I started looking into what it is and what I can cook for him and what is beneficial to aid in not causing flare ups, I don't look at him as he expects me to or thinks im going to I don't judge by looks as I have weight issues and have had all my life and get judged for my looks with tattooes and lots of piercings. but I think if I can get more insight from people that have had to deal with ridicule and being shunned I can honestly be not just a friend but maybe more and find out what I can do to ease his symptoms. so any info or suggestions will greatly be appreciated

Hi Jessica and welcome to the forum. Here you will find a friendly bunch of people all with at least one problem in common Psoriasis.
I applaud you for looking for food to cook for your friend another way you can help him is introduce him to this site where we are all equal and know the feelings he has and to some extent you say you have, being shunned and feeling like a leper..
Here you will just get support and understanding
You will, find some interesting posts on food on here and if you click The anti-inflamatory food pyramid it will give you a start
I'm afraid I like my food to much to bother with diets but some people on here swear by them
Thanks for coming and keep returningThumb

Hello Jessica Welcome to Psoriasis Club

First off I would say your friend should go to see a dermatologist if he hasn't done so already, you also state you have a few friends that have it and are looking into what it is and what you can cook for them.

As for what it is see What is psoriasis in the menu bar above.

But you're looking for a diet for your psoriasis friends, personally I don't believe diet is the way to go for treating psoriasis as there are some very extreme diets out there (some are nothing more than scams) so be careful.

Jim has pointed you to a good thread in the post above, and you may find some suggestions in the Natural Treatments For Psoriasis but for me psoriasis is an autoimmune problem that can not be fixed with a diet.

But good luck to you and your friends and let them know they are all welcome to come and join us here, we are a friendly bunch who understand.

Regards.

Fred.

thanks for the welcomes and I saved the food pyramid thanks jiml, he has seen a dr,he is taking humera I believe and he does say that some foods do affect him differently I know its not a cure all but I don't want to make him miserable by making him foods that could be a problem. and the more information I have on the better I feel and to be honest I came out to ky last aug and met him for the first time and didn't even notice, until my aunt told me that he has it and since birth I never paid attention, I actually forgot that he had it until we were texting about me cooking for him and he is the one that brought it up. I don't see him for the psoriasis I see him for him, its a part of him not something that he had a choice in having, to me its like the nose on your face.

Hi again Jessica
When are you planning to cook for him? Yes the food pyramid is a good reference point for you.
I would be inclined to just ask him, what has a bad effect, and avoid those foods, also avoid the night shades, but don't do bland food. I'm sure he will tell you if you ask, and ask what's his favourite foods
I wish you luck with the meal,
Do I detect romance? Or am I stepping out of line Blush

he has told me a lot of stuff he likes and I am doing a squash in the oven tonite and see if he likes. I cook a lot with cayenne pepper and one of the things I read is not to spicy so I have to tone it down he loves salmon which is perfect for me I love cooking with salmon and can pretty much cook with any ingredient or experiment with food and usually comes out very good, I already have stuff in my head of recipes that I normally do and can modify like no shrimp or add mushrooms things like that. no not stepping out of line, he is very shy and im not by any means, we text a lot and hang out so im hoping he comes around, there is an age difference hes younger, not that I mind I have dated 20 years senior and 20 years junior age is just a number its how you feel in your heart. I was always told a way to a mans hearts is thru his stomach. lol and im a very good cook so maybe......Smile

You are obviously a wonderful person. Just seeing the person as the person, and not judging by the outsides. Bigarm

Jessica you sound delightful. The way to a mans heart is certainly through his stomach, and the menu sounds good to me although any food sounds good to me.
I do hope he enjoys your efforts
Have you mentioned to him this club, he may well like to see it. It could be another way to his heart Big Grin
Fingers crossed78
