well the nurse turned up over an hour early LOL - we went through all the information we needed to - like side effects and things I am no longer allowed to eat Thumbsdown - then it was time to inject - I thought she was going to do the first one - how wrong I was LOL - I had to do both - one in my thigh and one in my stomach. so we checked the injections - for date and to make sure they were the right dose - and we were ready - well I thought I was LOL - nope it took me 15 minuets to pluck up the courage to inject myself - I have never felt such a wimp in my life LOL well I did it and my hand did not stop shaking - she must have thought I was a silly sod LOL - It stung like a bee sting for about 30 seconds then felt fine - so it was time to get ready for number two LOL I am pleased to report that Number two was a piece of cake - no hesitation at all. and I did not feel any sting - so was pleased about that. Next step is for me to inject myself again on 02 Oct with just one injection and the nurse will be back on 16 oct to ensure I am doing it right. I have felt no side effects today but have been warned I may get cold like symptoms in the next few days. cant believe I have nearly £800 worth of drugs in my system right now LOL - Lets hope they work their magic . XX HeartHeartthanks

The only question I forgot to ask was how long I would be on these injections - so I have written it down to ask on her next visit

Yay well done Tanlou Clap

The stinging is worse if it's cold, or you push it in to fast.

Yes you may get cold or flu like symptoms but your body will get used to it as time goes on, and it's not usually as bad as flu.

I'm curious on why you mentioned "things you're no longer allowed to eat" I have never heard of anything you should not eat whilst on the Bio's.

As for how long: Humira is usually one shot every two weeks, and you will stay on it as long as it's working. It's not a few shot's and cured, it's an ongoing treatment.

thanks for the ongoing support guys and gals xxxxxx The things im not allowed to eat is any dairy that is not pasteurised - no pate and no meat that is rare - or has any blood in it - the worst bit is I cant have feta cheese - which I love and have at least twice a week - so I will watch what I eat now thanks

It will be a small price to pay if it works. There's plenty of other food to enjoy Thumb

Tanlou I hope you don't mind me asking, but who has told you this? as I have never seen anything in relation to foods you can and can not take whilst taking Humira.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you or your adviser are wrong I would just like to see something more solid for the reasons they have said avoid the foods you mentioned as it could help others who are considering Humira for the first time.

Unpasteurised products I can understand, but most dairy these days is pasteurised. But pate and rare meat or feta cheese I have never heard of this being a problem.

Like I say I'm not saying anyone is wrong, I just feel it would be good if we could get more on it as it will help others.

I have never been told to avoid anything whilst taking bio's, and I see no reason for you to avoid red meat or feta. Pasteurised yes, but like I said most dairy is pasteurised these days.

The nurse said that as HUMIRA lowers your bodies immune system - I am more prone to get salmonella and listeria - from undercooked/unpasteurised food - cant have raw eggs either so no home made mayonnaise ect. The nurse did not have all the leaflets with her that she would normally leave with a new patient - but she will bring them next visit so I will read them and let you all know what they say xxthanks
