Hello all - My name is Cheryl and i live in manchester, I am married with four children (well one teenage girl and 3 younger boys) i was diagnosed with aih about 3 and half years ago and apart from the fatigue have been managing quite well! I just want to make a quick confession first - i think i may have psoriasis - have been to the gp with odd looking lesions on my skin mainly on my legs and she said she didnt think it was anything really to worry about but if it didnt clear up she would refer me to skin specialist - however on showing them to a couple of people they have said psoriasis straight away and i have googled images and found a couple that look exactly like what i have got. The reason for joining is i wanted to ask a couple of questions, I have an appt with the doctor in a couple of weeks but cannot get hold of her on the phone, even after leaving messages, the lesions dont itch themselves but for the past few days i have been itching all over, does anybody suffer with this before the lesions come up and also does anybody get them round their eyes, i have really sore eyes (like when youre really tired?) and i have just got rid of one off my left eye only to notice that there may be another coming up just a little further along. Sorry if i broke any rules here lol just desperate to try and find out what is going on! Thanks for reading and if anybody can offer any advice i would be most grateful Blush

Hello Cheryl Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

First off, No you haven't broken any rules and you are very welcome. It's the spammers, trolls, and bullies that are not welcome.

I would definitely get referred to a dermatologist as they are better suited to give you a 100% diagnoses, and also better suited to treat you.

Have a look at this thread and follow the links to lot's of images of psoriasis Types Of Psoriasis Explained

I've not known of psoriasis around the eyes but my eyes can get very sore like you explained sometimes, maybe another member will know more. If you are itching all over but not where the lesions are, that doesn't sound like psoriasis to me as it's the lesions that itch. (However it could be the start of a flare-up)

Ice can help with instant itch relief on psoriasis, a bag of frozen peas works well. Keep your skin moisturised as much as possible. Have a look at the descriptions and images I pointed you to, you will be able to tell a bit better if it is psoriasis.

Sorry not much help really as I'm not 100% sure by your description myself, but do get yourself to a specialist dermatologist at your local hospital.

Please do keep us informed as you input could help others.

Regards.

Fred.

Hi Cheryl and welcome to the forum you are in a good place for information. You are always welcome here it's a great place to come for advice and information.
lets hope it turns out not to be psoriasis as psoriasis is not something I would wish on anyone. Fred has advised you already to see a dermatologist they are the only way to get a proper diagnosis.
The lesions you describe could well be psoriasis, the itching before it erupts is a familiar tale to me I always notice before a flare the itching starts
Sorry I can't help more I hope to hear soon from you that it is something else that can be cured
Good luck and do keep returning
Jim

Thank you both for your replies and links I shall have a look later, boys are back from school and have commandeered the computer lol, mobiles aren't brilliant at viewing websites. But I will add that some info I have read says psoriasis is very itchy whereas others say not everyone has it itchy, that's why I thought I'd ask on here xx

Cheryl if in doubt ask is the best way I'm Sure you will get more replies some with itching some without it affects everyone differently, that's why there is no one drug to fix it. When you're lucky enough to be allowed Big Grin on the computer the sites Fred pointed you at are worth a visit
And you're always welcome here

Hello Cheryl,

Welcome to the forum !
You are the second Cheryl over here, so we have to pay attention.

As far as I know, psoriasis is not specifically itchy, other than the fact that you feel it and unconsciously touch it to scratch.
But there are exceptions, I know of guy who had it terribly itchy. Only after long use of medication I heard that the itchiness became less.

The tips of Fred are good, cooling with peas,
Possibly also the use of some coconut oil may help, Fred, is that correct ?

Cheers,
Caroline

Yes coconut oil will help psoriasis and dry skin, but I didn't mention it as I'm still not sure if it is psoriasis Cheryl was describing. It does sound like it but we have to be careful as some other skin problems can look like psoriasis, and coconut oil although being very good may not help in all skin cases, some skin problems don't like to much moisture.

Just me being a bit cautious for a change. Big Grin

Here's the thread about coconut oil and yes it will help psoriasis and all sorts of problems, but best to test it out first and please make sure you get a good brand without additives. Coconut Oil

Wow that was extra cautious for me, I must go and fill my glass with wine and sit on my lazy bum. Now that is bad for psoriasis, but it's rather enjoyable. Smile

You're welcome, yes demand that your GP gets you an appointment with a dermatologist. You have the right to ask for this and the sooner you get a full diagnoses the better as they can start treating you, it probably is psoriasis but it's always best to get a professional confirm that.

Please do keep us informed even if it's not psoriasis as you input could help others, should it turn out it is psoriasis then you're not alone there's a friendly bunch here always willing to offer help and support.

And if you're ever bored, check out the Members Only Boards. The Off Topic is often busy, and you will find I'm the sensible one in there. Big Grin

Kids must be at school as you have got the computer back..........Smile. And yes it is the best get to get a referral, hopefully it will go away but my experience is its a stubborn beast to shift.... A few topicals may give you some clearance and hopefully it won't come back, it's a possibility
But certainly the first thing has to be a proper diagnosis.
If you say it's mild at present, in my opinion that's the time to atttack it with whatever you are prescribed
Try not to get too stressed as that is a trigger, eat healthily there are some useful ideas on here The anti-inflamatory food pyramid
Thanks for coming back do keep us informed
