Morning,
Just stumbled upon this forum, Have had P for around 10 years now, scalp, elbows, knees and hands mainly, with the odd patch in other areas. I have been through all of the creams, all which have worked to start with then slowly lost their effectivness. UVB treatment has worked well each time i have had it, but within weeks of stopping the dreaded patches start to return.
Currently taking vitamin d3 and zinc after reading about their use on the net.
Its been about 3 weeks now, and the scale has completely gone, i had terrible trouble with my knees and elbows cracking and bleeding, but now they are smooth and supple. Its not a wonder cure, you can still see the areas of P, but it just looks like big areas of healed skin, but it doesnt hurt or bleed and looks 100% better than the scale.
Would like to hear of anyone elses experiance of vit d and zinc

Regards Jay

Hello Jay,

Welcome Welcome to the forum.

Hey, I see you are from Norfolk, one of our members, Jiml, is also from Norfolk.

On your question on vitamine D, I only can answer that I myself do not have the experience that you have with it, but that I do know that this vitamine is an important one. A bit logical as an UVB treatment also increases the level of Vit D in your skin, and you know the result of that.

Probably others will pick up your question.
In the mean time, do look around on the forum, there is a pile of information on it.

Cheers,
Caroline

Hello Jay Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

I'm not into the natural approach myself so cant help apart from point you to a thread I started 3 years ago Vitamin D the natural way.

I'm with Jim get yourself referred to a good dermatologist, there's some very good treatments available these days that do work and a dermatologist will work with you to find what's best.

Should you still prefer to go the natural way there are some threads you may be interest in here: Natural Treatments For Psoriasis

Regards.

Fred.

Oh and as for Jim being the quiet one, I'm the only sensible one. Rolleyes

Welcome Jay! I take Vit D and UVB treatments and also Acitretin. I am all for natural treatments if they work for you, but I also like having a doctor keep an eye on levels, even if using natural supplements. Glad you found your way here!

Hi Jay & welcome...

So glad to hear u have found methods that helps u put psoriasis in remission..

Getting ready for Xmas see lots of snow here already!

Remember the cold weather is drying in skin so always put moisturizer on or a skin protectorate.

I always use filtered water and use plain glycerine soap. Moisturizer is a biggie. No sugars & eat anti inflam foods. Lots of yogurt to keep the gut flora balanced.

I have had 3 TYPES of P. Since I was 5 and 60 years later I still have P. And many things OTC in my arsenal that ALWAYS keeps P. At bay. As well as vit-B & light therapy. I have a technique that helps. Also good to hear u use zinc ... Very good for P. & see the local boards for referrals on what works for others.

I also have PSA & a bio Apremilast and Xeraflex are the two I am waitng on for PSA. The joints in my fingers.

Most insurance has to approve it first. Still not sure that's the way to go.. However the longer I wait the worse the damage is to my fingers. Etanercept also a bio waiting for use for arthritis in my back.

Come visit us anytime there are many here who can help and cheer u up. A lot of experience and good advice. This is a great site.

Cream colored ponies and crisp apple strudel....When the itch crawls and pokes me, when my skin starts to burn & crack...I simply remember some of my favorite things..
I get out my wreaths & old Xmas songs....with bright Xmas lites and cranberries on strings....... These are just few of my favorite things!

Happy Holiday's

Thanks for all the replies.
I probably didnt make it very clear, i am seeing a Dermatologist, between uvb treatments my p returns quite quickly. Apart from moisturising, creams be the steriod or others dont seem to work now, thats why i decided to try Zinc/Vitd3.
Week 4 and still scale free, have to say i am very happy if this works long term. I dont think its a cure, but if it stops me from leaving a trail of scale and no cracking and splitting, i will be a happy boy.

Have a great week all

Jay

Hi Jay,

Good to hear that this is working well.
Let's hope this will continue for you for a long time.

You state: " I dont think its a cure, but if it stops me from leaving a trail of scale and no cracking and splitting", and there might be something to be said about.
Indeed it is no cure, more strongly said, "There is no cure.".
We here at Psoriasisclub have known psoriasis already for long, and our conclusion is that there are treatments, but there is no cure.
Sorry to tell you so, but it might be better that you know.

The treatments however keep getting better, that is on the positive side.

Caroline.

I hope it keeps working and keeping the scaling under control... As I said earlier I have no experience of the zinc and my vitamin d I get naturally
I still think in my opinion that next time you see the dermatologist it would be worth asking about alternative medication as there is a lot of new therapies available now.
But if you are happy and under control that's great..
The forum is here for all of us although I don't know of anyone currently on zinc and vitamin D3
But im sure you will get a response if anyone uses it
Good luck and keep,us updated
There is a lot of good information on the natural health boards for you to browse through in the meantime..... Or come and chat with us in the off topic section
Jim
