Hi All,

I was googling MTX vs fumaderm and found you.

I decided to join as I found the posts quite thoughtful and based on personal evidence.
I'm 44 and got the first spots of psoriasis in 91-92 I think.

did light treatments in Italy and they worked very well for me.
Once I moved to Ireland the local Dermatologist stated I definitely had way too much light treatments and prescribed some cream ( i'll check later the proper name). they obviously didn't work.

I gave up for 6-7 years with no treatment whatsoever as the temperatures in Ireland aren't that inviting to get undressed.

I'm going to see the dermatologist again tomorrow and I think i'll opt for the fumaderm but I'm curious about the psorinovo option discussed here.
Thanks All for your help.

Hello Enrico  Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

Yes all posts are from real people who have psoriasis, we have no ulterior motive and no sponsors, advertisers, or donator's to please. It's just personal experiences so what you get is honest opinions.

The Dimethylfumarate gang will be able to tell you more about Fumaderm, but you won't be able to get Psorinovo unless you pay for it yourself.

Regards.

Fred.

hi Enrico and  Welcome to the club, I'm so glad you found us and the Google search pointed you here,
You will find this a very genuine site which Fred provides for us to discuss our various treatments and give and receive support if required. You will find Fred keeps a good forum clear of outside interests and won't tolerate spam so we all feel secure and can post in safety
I think you have made the right decision and if you get the chance of taking Fumaderm it should be a life changer for you... I'm sure others will tell you the difference between Psorinovo and Fumaderm. They should both deliver the same clearance though, and it will depend on your healthcare system whether you can get Psorinovo In Ireland
I have been on Fumaderm for over three years and and can't sing its praises loud enough, yes at the start of treatment it can get pretty unpleasant but stick with it and you will think the side effects well worth having if you get the same results as I get.....feel free to ask questions there is always someone not far away to answer any queries .

I hope you will return and keep us updated on your journey and you will always be made welcome in the off topic boards where you can chill away from the day to day worries with fellow sufferers  Thumb

thanks guys.

I forgot to say that my score from the test here was pretty high 31.

Can I ask 2 questions here straight away ? or can I move the post elsewhere?

q1 what is your experience with real sun guys ?
I still love it and it makes me feel so much better in general.
will I be able to still get some sun during my hols ? remember I live in the west of Ireland.

q2 can I go on and off fumaderm / the cost of it is prohibitive in Ireland.

thanks !!

You can ask questions in this thread if you wish, though you may get better answers if you start a new thread for each question. We don't mind how many you make, so ask away.

Re Question #1 Yes sunshine is one of the best things ever for psoriasis, I love the west of Ireland but sunshine may be difficult. But there is good news as your body only needs 3 sessions of 15 minutes per week to get enough Vit D see here Free Psoriasis Treatment

Well Enrico
31 is a reasonable score it will be nice if you redo the test in the future when you start on the treatment.

I still get out in the sun as much as I can in Norfolk and it does me good, feeling of well being and I have always wanted to sun myself as when I was bad with it it was my only way to clear it and I think if I can keep my body topped up during the summer, I should be able to reduce the Fumaderm and go onto more of a maintenance dose .
Now can you get sun during your holidays...... I doubt it unless you leave Ireland for a couple of weeks Big Grin
If you can find it sit out in it, I do
There is no way of knowing if you can stop Fumaderm without the psoriasis coming back, I have found when I dropped to 2 tablets a day it wasn't enough and new plaques started appearing so I upped the dose to get my self relatively clear again... So I think you need to keep the stuff in your system to block the disease ( just my opinion)
I understand a monthly prescription certificate is €110 is that correct if so yes it is expensive.
Some can come off and not have an outbreak for ages
It's an awkward question perhaps Phil may come and give his experience I know he was off it for a long time and then came back to it

Take my advice; I don't use it anyway.

Welcome Enrico!

I have no experience with Fumaderm, but others will happily discuss that with you.

I did light therapy, but I was also on Acitretin at the time so I don't know which to credit with helping so I'll say it was a combination of the two. After having doctors warn me of getting too much sun, it's a bit odd now having them tell me to get out in it. I'm looking forward to summer here (southern U.S.) and hoping the sunshine helps, but as you said it will help with mood if nothing else. Smile

Glad you found your way here!

Hi Enrico,

It is disgraceful that DMF based medications are so expensive when the raw material is so cheap. I take 2.4 grams of DMF a week at a cost of about 40 cents Australian. The drug has been fantastic and I have stopped other therapies, although there in no shortage of sunlight here. Discussion on this forum recently has rekindled my interest in topicals, and I may try them concurrently with the DMF and bleach baths to see if I can achieve the Holy Grail of a clear skin. So near and yet so far.

Cheers,

Bill

I forgot to mention that a year a go during a visit to my wife GP, I was prescribed NALTROXONE.
Naltroxone is a fertility drug completely harmless apparently.
After 2 months ish of no result than within 2 weeks we saw a massive improvements on most areas apart from my shins.
Pity I couldn't get that prescription anymore.

Any experience of this ?
