Hi everyone,

I finally got my fumaderm initial tablets yesterday, I took my first tablet last night half way through my dinner, followed by a yoghurt (after reading lots of your advice) I'm on 1 tablet for a week, then going to two a day for a week, then up to 3 a day for a week, by which time I will be going back to see my derm. I felt quite sick last night, but not so bad this morning. Not suffered any stomach cramps yet, but I do keep going rather warm! I have another week or so on 100mg of ciclosporin, then dropping down to 50mg for two weeks before coming off them altogether. Hopefully there won't be any interaction between the two, as it will be bad enough suffering side effects from both for a week!

Hi MaDbEaR,

DMF, I like more of speaking about DMF than about Fumaderm, does not have a record of interfering with other medication, so in that sense there should not be a problem. Good that you are going off cyclosporin though.

About the warmth, there are two things common to DMF.
1) you can have so called "hot flushes", certainly when you are beginning with the treatment.  (this is what we had to tell you yet Smile )
It mostly starts with a tickling sensation of warm needles on you head, starting from the top of your skull. Your head will become hotter and hotter and become furiously red.
Depending on your sensitivity for the medication, this feeling will either stop again with your head or lower down onto your body, and you may get totally red and warm.
The fun of this is that a) it will show that it is working, there is an interaction and b) it is totally harmless. Smile
Oh, and it may last from 20 minutes to max 40 minutes.
2) DMF is poking up your metabolism into a higher energy state. Your temperature will rise a little due to an increased energy consumption by your cells.

Caroline

Congratulations on getting the tablets I will keep my fingers crossed that they work their magic on you, I assume the tablets you have are the fumaderm initial starter tablets, it will be a slow build up before you get to the full strength tablets.
If you need any advice or encouragement you can be assured you will get it from us on here.
I'm hoping you have a gentle ride with it , but I'm sure from reading the experience of others on here, you are prepared for a bit of discomfort, I can reassure you that the warm flush you are already feeling is a good sign. The side effects will occur,  but get through them and they will subside and you will enjoy a long term clear skin I'm sure
Good luck on your journey and I look forward to walking through it at your side as a supporter

Yes congratulations , I hope that it all works OK for you , I found that I could not tolerate cyclosporine but some inmates on here swear by the fumaderm so all the best for a clear skin.

Good luck MaDbEaR and well done for starting your own thread, I look forward to reading your progress.

I find it odd that you are gradually coming off ciclosporin, but starting fumaderm whilst still on it. I would have thought it best to wait till you have finished ciclosporin and got it out of your system before starting fumaderm so you can monitor the results better, but I'm no doctor and Caroline has confirmed there is no interaction between the two so all is well.

Hi everyone, thanks for the support Smile

I have just read in the fumaderm leaflet, it states that cyclosporine must not be used simultaneously with fumaderm initial, but my derm told me to start taking the fumaderm while I was coming off the ciclosporin (neoral) to avoid a flare up!! Conflicting or what!? I'm thinking I'll just carry on taking both, the dose of ciclo is dropping to 50mg before I go up to 2 tablets, and the fumaderm oracle (Caroline Smile ) doesn't think there will be a reaction. Surely my derm wouldn't tell me to do it if there was a chance of anything bad happening?

I can't think your dermatologist would do anything dangerous, not that I have taken cyclosporine but I had just come off methotrexate when I started, I'm sure Caroline would know if there were a danger she has studied the drug and is as you say the oracle ... Just watch for any unexpected side effect, when should you finish the cyclo?

Thanks Jiml, I stop taking them in 18 days (not that I'm counting or anything!) I'm only on 100mg for another 4 days then dropping to 50mg for two weeks. I know the side effects from them all too well so I'll be able to tell pretty quick if anything is out of kilter.
