Treatment: Clobetasol ointment

Good Afternoon All,

I stumbled on the site this morning while searching comments on hemp oil.  Just spent the last 2 hours reading all the posts here.  Thank you for taking my mind off the current condition of my skin!  I have plaque psoriasis and use clobetasol ointment for treatment.  I decided to give it a break recently as it was not working effectively.  Bad idea.  Tired of being sticky all the time; tired of my bed looking like a snow globe blew up in it; sorry my wife wakes up every morning with dandruff (she doesn't have dandruff).  It was 100+ degrees outside the other day and this guy (me) was the only one at a pool party fully dressed and sweating my ass off.  Shorts and short sleeves are out of the question, exposing my skin in public is out of the question.  I keep my hands hidden and instead of a handshake, most people get a elbow bump upon introduction.   I know there is no cure, just trying to gain some control!  I appreciate all the posts, hopefully I will find something close to a remedy here. -Joe

Hi Joe and a big  Welcome  to the club . I'm glad you have been reading the posts on here from the members, you will notice we are a small but friendly bunch of sufferers, but we do like to exchange views on the treatments that work and sometimes don't for us.
There is no outside pressure on this site it is totally independent and unbiased and the views are those of the members

Regarding your problem I think and it's just an opinion that you should get yourself to a good dermatologist as these days there is no need to suffer so badly ( you are right there is no cure) but for most there is a treatment to control it to an extent. We all know the mental effect of the disease on us and the reluctance to show skin

It sounds to me as if creams and potions have stopped working for you and you need to be moved on to  the next step which could be tablets of acetretin or methotrexate both of which might give you a clear skin ... Or you might be lucky and your dermatologist may prescribe a biological drug
There are many possibilities and one of them will suit you .....at the moment there are lots of new drugs coming to market . But you do need to see a dermatologist to get any of them prescribed

Good luck Jim

Welcome Joe

Feel free to help yourself to the cookies and the alcohol in the bar. Its not mine but you can have some anyway Tongue

On a slightly serious note I understand your frustration as i'm sure you may have read, having to put creams and lotions on is not fun and not the most pleasant thing in the world, especially if you end up leaving it on everything you touch, i tried to make my doctor understand on the last visit, so she gave me even more to use. I think if all doctors had to endure a week of what we have to they'd soon change there tune.

Welcome though mate.

Hello Joe  Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

Unfortunately the ointments and creams rarely have a lasting effect, they can help for a while but it's not usually a long term solution unless you're lucky enough to only have mild psoriasis then they can keep it at bay.

I as I'm sure everyone else with psoriasis can sympathise with you about not wanting to let others see your psoriasis, but if you could just start of slowly with a couple of good close friends you may find it;s not as bad as you think. And a good friend will always back you up should some idiot start pushing it to far about the way you look, if you can expose your skin 15 minutes three times a week it will help.

Like Jim said you will find us a friendly bunch, and if you follow Bav's lead and check out the Off Topic board you will soon see we can forget about psoriasis for a while.

Regards.

Fred.

Hi Joe and welcome to the site.
P is a very frustrating crappy problem to be saddled with but I have learnt one thing, never be afraid to be different, anyone who does not like it is their problem not yours, SOD EM.
Most of the inmates on here are nutcases but there is one thing that you can say without contradiction , we all have P and PsA so we know what the problems are in fact we know more about it than many so called experts and the one thing that stands out, get a good dermatologist do not rely on GPs . One more thing, what works for one does not necessarily work for another as we are all different.
Take care and all the best Dave

Hi Joe,

When Dave is talking about nutcases, he probably does not mean me, otherwise I will chase his chickens around. s17 Anyway, be welcome to psoriasisclub. A fine group of people trying to deal with the same problem.
Psoriasis is very varied, what works for one, specifically does not have to work for someone else, though we have quite a deal of knowledge on how to deal, start, continue and avoid medications. So you can see us as a reference before going to a dermatologist. So before you go, ask around. Always someone will answer.

Jim is already mentioning treatments. So do ask about methotrexate and you will get interesting answers.

In the mean time, look around and enjoy where you can, because we like chatting and fooling around with another,

Cheers,
Caroline

Hello and welcome to the forum. I think at some point with this disease we are all certifiable "nutcases." The worse part of this disease is being cleared and watching the stuff slowly come back.

Welcome Joe!

This is definitely the place where you'll find understanding as well as lots of info and advice. There are so many options and I hope you find a treatment that works for you, I'd have a talk with your doctor about finding one.
