Hello from New York :Smile I have been a psoriasis sufferer (moderate) for 5 years now. Its in my mothers side of the family and and I got it at the age of 33 years old. For the past 5 years I have tried many different creams and diets to control it. Over the years I figured what would inflame it more and what did absolutely nothing to fight it. I have given up on the natural route and will start going on meds for the first time. Within 2 weeks my insurance company approved my prescription for cosentyx and I will be receiving it this Thursday. I am excited and nervous at the same time, I am worried about side effects but it has gotten to the point I will try anything. I am also worried that it will work well and then one day my body will get immune to it and the out breaks will come back (this happened with the cream's).
I have it in the typical area's  except for my nails. I will be taking before and after pics and will update you guys every week. I am not sure how many of you are on cosentyx but would love to hear from you. Not sure what else to say??

Hi there! Smile nice to meet you, hope you get on well with the cosentyx. I haven't tried that one but I know what you mean about your body getting immune to things and them no longer working. However, this might be just the thing for you.

Hi Ralph and a big  Welcome  to the club, we are a small but growing band of psoriasis sufferers, happy to exchange views on this awful disease, and what works and what doesn't work for us.

Just delve in there is loads of information here in the health boards and several members on Cosentyx who may answer your thread, but it seems with Cosentyx that it works, and many forget to come back and tell us

Hello Ralph  Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

We had another new member asking about other Cosentyx users the other day. I'll point you to the answer I gave him: RE: Hello You are welcome to post on those threads and see if someone answers.

I can understand you being a bit concerned about the Bio's. But for me they have been the best thing that ever happened to me as they gave me back my life. You can find bad things about all treatments, even the natural rout that you were once using has it's dangers. But the modern treatments have undergone a huge amount of testing and you will be well monitored throughout the treatment.

Yes the bio's can work then suddenly stop working, but there are currently seven in use and another on the horizon. You can find out more about the current ones here: Biological Treatments For Psoriasis It's a matter of finding which one is best for you and we are all different. I've been on my current one Stelara for almost six years now, but the others before Stelara either stopped working or gave me a reaction. There is no one fit's all with any treatment and you just have to try. Should you get any problems with Cosentyx it will soon be picked up and you will be taken off it and I'm 99% sure it won't leave you with any lasting problems.

As for sharing your journey we encourage all our members to start a new thread in Prescribed Treatments For Psoriasis and update it as they go. It's a great way of having something to look back on and your input could help others.

Regards.

Fred.

Hi Ralph.

I'm Kit - also a brand new user of this forum. I've had Psoriasis flare-ups on and off since the early 1980's and have been on a variety of treatments.  Since joining this Forum I've been able to learn more about P. than I've picked up from all the doctors and dermatologists that I've seen over the past few decades.  There is a wealth of info here and a lot of experience.  I hope that you link up with a fellow cosentyx user and obtain the reassurance and info that you are looking for.  I'm currently just starting a regime of Fumaderm and am planning to chart my progress (or otherwise) with this drug here on the forum. I go onto the full strength Fumaderm tablets tomorrow.  Interesting that you mentioned a hereditary factor. P. probably can be hereditary ?!? (Someone on the forum will probably let us know) but in my case I cannot "blame" either of my parents or grandparents as they were all clear when they were alive.  I hope that I haven't passed it on to my 2 kids and their children.  No sign of that yet!

Good luck with your treatment - hope it suits you and your skin!

Cheers

Kit

Welcome Ralph!

Becoming immune to a certain treatment is always possible, but I wouldn't worry too much about that as there are so many treatments available that should that ever happen, you will have other options. The important thing is to find the best treatment that works for you. Smile

I look forward to hearing about your journey and wish you well. This forum has a lot of information and people willing to share their experiences and answer any questions that they can. Glad you joined us!

Hello Ralph, it would be better to start a new thread in Prescribed Treatments For Psoriasis it will get found by more people. Just give it a title and make your post, then come back as and when you like to update it with new posts.

Hi Ralph. welcome to the forum ,Cosentyx was one of the drugs that was discussed but I went on to Stelara, it was said at the time that Cosentyx would probably be better for my PsA as well as the P .
It's a great site with fantastic people who have all got P/PsA and will give you truthful answers from experience not books like most of the medical people.
Just jump in and have a good look around ,we have a lot of light hearted fun as well and Fred has done a fantastic job with the site.
Welcome and all the best Dave

Cosentyx works great for the back, not so much with hands and feet. It works well for psoriasis if you are on the proper weight based dose. Only side effects I have had is gastro problems after injections.
