My name is Sally, i am 59 and have had Psoriasis for 27 years now, diagnosed just after the passing of my Uncle in 1988.

I was hospitalized when first diagnosed as doctors didn't know what it was, and by the time they got around to sending me to a specialist at the hospital, i was covered in it.  Back then i was given coal tar treatments which worked brilliantly, but since they where band here some years back now i have struggled to find anything that works for my plaque Psoroasis,  head and shoulders is brilliant for my scalp, i have tried varies things for my skin though, currently using aveeno, though it stops the itching, it doesn't clear it, E45 makes it itch more as does epaderm.

I would be greatful for any suggestions.

Thanks guys Thumb

Hi Sally and a warm welcome  Welcome to the club there is lots to learn here and we are a very friendly bunch of sufferers. I'm running late at the moment but I will reply more fully a bit later.
But I saw your post and thought I would just say hi
Have you seen a dermatologist recently as it sounds as if you have been ignored by the system, there are many effective treatments out there but my best advice is tell your GP that you want a referral as the psoriasis is affecting your quality of life
Have a look through the oral treatments as I think you may be ready for one of those Oral Treatments For Psoriasis
I'm sure before long you will get some other good advice here and I will return later to add my twopenneth  Thumb

Hello Sally  Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

I'm with Jim, it sounds like time to try one of the Oral Treatments For Psoriasis

Also it may be worth you looking through some threads on Prescribed Treatments For Psoriasis and read what others are trying.

Just dive on in and ask, you will find a friendly and supportive bunch here.

Regards.

Fred.

Do have a good read before you see your GP and don't be put off with creams and lotions anymore, ask for a referral to a dermatologist it might take time for the appointment  but when you get to see one you will be within the system and should progress through treatments until you find one that will give you lasting relief.

I myself went through the coal tar treatments, potions and lotions then the ultra violet treatments but they were all just short term fixes ( the steroid creams thinned my skin ) as I was not regulated just kept getting repeat prescriptions
Then I got onto the oral treatments starting with the dermatologists first choice ( based on price) methotrexate.. It didn't suit me so I was lucky enough 4 years ago to be offered Fumaderm tablets and have been clear ever since, so take heart and learn on here what is available to you,
Don't be short changed by your doctor.....insist on a referral....tell him it's affecting your quality of life and self esteem ( even if it is a white lie) it may get you on a good treatment earlier

If you have any questions just shout out and someone will answer, not always immediately, but you will get an answer

Look forward to hearing more from you , and might see you in the off topic section for a chat [Group Specific]

I bet you've heard all the Essex jokes ?  Big Grin

I'm the insane one on here Sally  Whistle

Aveeno (i'm on that stuff, body wash, bath oil, moisturising lotion) does not clear P, it relieves it.............and, as you say, it can help ease the itch.
Aveeno is good Sally, don't get me wrong but you need to see GP & get him / her to refer you to a dermatologist  Thumb
E45 is pants in my book, use Biona Raw Virgin coconut oil, it's the best stuff tor plaque psoriasis. Amazon do a 800g tub of it or fleabay aswell for around £13. It feels rock hard when trying to extract it from the tub but soon melts once it's on your skin.

Enjoy yourself on here Sally, we are all in the same boat.........[Image: t31121.gif]
A wealth of information on here Smile

Welcome Sally!

There are a lot of options for treatment now so push your GP to get you in to see a dermatologist so you can find what's right for you.

And I AM one of the normal ones (or maybe THE normal one! Big Grin)

Hi Sally. welcome to the club , I can still smell the tar now you have mentioned it , what a real mess that was. When you see your GP I would insist that you are referred to a dermatologist as in recent years the treatments have come on quite a lot and I am sure that you can be treated with something much better now. The trouble with GPs is that they know a little about a lot but not a lot about specialist areas .
By the way take no notice of the inmates as they are all barmy .
Dave
