Hello everyone

I have had psoriasis since I was 15 im now 31 .....tried most creams/ointments nothing much worked until my dermatologist put me on methotrexate...this was great but I had terrible side affects, I have heard lots of good things about stelara.
I think at my next dermatolgy appointment I will ask to go on this as Im currently having an awful flare up.

Hello jennamarie  Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

I'm a big fan of Stelara it gave me back my life. As for Poison Methotrexate get off it as soon as you can would be my advice.

If you put Stelara in the Search you will get a lot of info, so I would suggest arming yourself ready for your next appointment.

Don't hesitate to ask questions, you will find us a friendly bunch.

Regards.

Fred.

Hi Jenna and  Welcome from me to the club...I am glad you have found us and hope you find the site interesting
As you have already heard we are a friendly group of fellow sufferers and always pleased to welcome new members, here we are all happy to share experiences,
I hope you get your wish and get stelara ..but I think you may have to try one of the other bios first ...but arm yourself with as much information as possible , before you see the dermatologist
You can learn a lot about the latest treatments in the prescribed treatment boards Prescribed Treatments For Psoriasis
If you feel you want a break from the psoriasis threads join us in the off topic section where there are lots of interesting threads including [Group Specific] or have a look at some members photos [Group Specific] and many more

Hey Jenna,

Just to come back on the replies of Jim and Fred. It is indeed possible that they do not yet want to put you on Stelara, evidently because of the costs.
Stelara is a biological and that medication is rather costly.
Therefore they may want to put you on another systemic like MTX (you know that you have to avoid that) or Acetretin or Fumaderm.
In that case, do come back, because we also have lots of information and results from users of those products.

Hi Jenna and welcome to the club.
Sorry to hear of your flair up
Like the others have said go fully armed to your next Dermy appointment. I would ask for Stellara but be aware that our glorious NHS has a protocol to follow and depending upon your severity and other medical conditions they may push you onto Acitretin or Cyclosporin et al and fail on those before going onto the bio's. Do your best and and be prepared to hold your ground with valid arguments. I have always found it useful to go with someone and take them into the appointment you generally get received so much better than seeing someone solo.
Take care and keep us updated

If they present you cyclosporine... not everyone is so fond of that.. [Group Specific]
So take care. Smile
