Thanks all for your kind welcome - having looked at the images - a few of them do look familiar 
it is only mild at the minute they are only small but they are bright red with what i thought was just dry skin enclosed but the main one has been there for a good few weeks and i have other smaller ones further down my legs , i think i definitely need to get hold of my gp and get her to refer me - thank you for the tips i shall bear them in mind xx
