As far as I know SSP. Has to be paid by your employer if you are long term sick, you will need a certificate from your doctor and your employer should pay at least statutory sick pay ... For I believe 28 weeks.

Whatever you do don't quit, that will let your employer off the hook. I will find out for certain
( I have never paid SSP I'm one of the few employers who just keep paying full wages when anyone was off sick..) ..
