Firstly, good luck with seeing your consultant. I hope they come up with something that works well for you.
I have tried so many steroid creams & currently have four I use for various different areas. The only one I really noticed an improvement with (other than just 'maintaining' the patches) is Dermovate. It can be used on the body but only short term as its really strong. My doctor is reulctant to give me repeat prescriptions for it as I used to go through a tube in a week but only because I had so many patches and the tube is TINY!
