Correct I have read them also.
The case report is interesting, but extremely biased. One bird does not make it spring yet.
Too bad the article is sloppy. No real research has been done about Prorinovo so the articles contain mistakes, it seems to rest on the opinion of people.
E.g.
Quote:The compounded product Psorinovo contains dimethyl fumarate and may also contain other ingredients, such as copper monoethyl fumaric acid. In the two case reports, both patients had severe lymphopenia for prolonged periods — 2 and 5 years, respectively — before receiving a diagnosis of PML.
Is basically completely wrong. Psorinovo is DMF, enteric coated, slow release. Nothing more. The additions that are mentioned were perhaps from 2010, but are not there anymore. Psorinovo is NOT a compounded product, it only contains one substance....DMF. Fumaderm though is compounded.
Apparently the editor has done no real research at the developers of Psorinovo. I spoke to dr. Kunst, and he was not interviewed, nor did he know of contact between the pharmacist and the researchers.

There is a risk for PML if your lympho count is too low. That holds for any medication, MTX, thingsy-bab, or whatever.
Up to know it was not known that is also was the case for Psorinovo. But it seems logical, as the real point is too low lympho-count.
If you use Psorinovo, the protocol is that every half year one has to let check the blood on that lympho-count. Recommendation is, that if the count is to low, one has to stop with the Psorinovo/DMF. The patient may claim that he/she did not know that, but it is in the protocol for the treating doctor.

Recently has been found that DMF, is able to stop MS. This report may, on a two-cases basis, destroy this valuable possibly. Risks must be known, but the origin of this risk is also known and nothing new. It makes no sense to blame the medication, MTX is also not blamed, it makes sense to keep a sharp eye and follow the protocol.

The site does not give the possibility to react, so corrections are not possible, it is a one way street as it often is. I have tweeted the editor for his mistakes.
Source: NO LINKS ALLOWED

By the way, the third letter is NOT the reaction of the producers. It is the reaction of the producer of Fumaderm. Who says things about Psorinovo that he does not know of. So also this letter is mistaken. The only producer of Psorinovo is one specific pharmacy in holland. Their name is not found in the article.

Again... Mistaken, maybe...

Biogen is just starting with DMF's. Of course they cannot have had problems up to know, it is too short on the market. They sell their product, where the basic substance is very cheap, for an extreme high price. I have heard prices of several dollars per 120mg.

Cheers,
Caroline
