Do have a good read before you see your GP and don't be put off with creams and lotions anymore, ask for a referral to a dermatologist it might take time for the appointment  but when you get to see one you will be within the system and should progress through treatments until you find one that will give you lasting relief.

I myself went through the coal tar treatments, potions and lotions then the ultra violet treatments but they were all just short term fixes ( the steroid creams thinned my skin ) as I was not regulated just kept getting repeat prescriptions
Then I got onto the oral treatments starting with the dermatologists first choice ( based on price) methotrexate.. It didn't suit me so I was lucky enough 4 years ago to be offered Fumaderm tablets and have been clear ever since, so take heart and learn on here what is available to you,
Don't be short changed by your doctor.....insist on a referral....tell him it's affecting your quality of life and self esteem ( even if it is a white lie) it may get you on a good treatment earlier
