My daughter 22, Sam has recently (since March 2016) developed gutate psoriasis. She has coverage over 80% of her body and is MISERABLE.  My first question is what are the stages this condition goes through?  She was on a topical cream that was  doing very little, but she was going through the large jar of cream very quickly.  She has not had the cream for several weeks and it has come back with a vengence.  She is moisturizing, but nothing else medically and her skin has very little scaling (except her scalp), but the patches are raw and red and hot and painful.  I am at a loss as how to help her and was wondering if this "stage" is a bad sign of worse things to come or just a stage before the scaling starts.  Is there anything naturally we can use right now to shrink some of the sores or is this it for her?  I am worried about her being able to afford medication, biologics etc. when she is too old to be on my insurance, so I was trying to treat this naturally for her pocketbook's sake.  Any suggestions would be welcome.  Thanks again for this site; it is very comforting to know there are other sufferers out there although I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.

Mary - Mom of Sam

I'm pleased you have found this site you have come to a great place for support and advice, but bear in mind we are not dermatologists, we are all just sufferers like Sam that are here to support one another and pass on our experiences ( don't worry about the length of your post )

I don't know what creams that Sam has been on but I suspect a steroid based cream, but you ask about stages of the disease ......that's a difficult question to answer as it hits us all in different ways...some people  get psoriasis mildly and it never spreads, whereas with others it erupts all over ....
Sadly there is no easy answer, but I would recommend that she visits a dermatologist and get her off the creams on to a systemic drug that will probably help.....but I would also check the natural treatment board here where there are many ideas to help with diet
How I Cured My Psoriasis By Diet is an interesting one for you if you want to try the natural route first

I'm assuming you are from America as you mention cost

Browse the boards and if you have any questions just ask away

And you are right it is an awful disease that is with her for life, but it is manageable and possible to get clear of it ...but it will always be there  Confused  and we are here to offer support

Jim
