Hello and welcome. Systemic steriods are far to dangerous to use long term. Instead, immunosuppressive drugs are used. There are two types DMARDs and biologics. DMARDs are pills such as Methotrexate. Biologics are newer medication that is injected. Hope this helps, I am sure others will tune in.
