Welcome Jon, I've got a few white patches like that, in fact it looks like vitiligo. I'm actually less self conscious of them as know they won't flake and don't look as angry as my other patches.
I have found in the past that being out in the sun helps as although they don't completely disappear, they do look less obvious.
