Hi there,

I'm 35 y.o. from the Netherlands. Got psoriasis around my 15th birthday. Worst gift ever.

Psoriasis comes and goes but it's always right there on my face: red and scaly skin on my forehead, temples, nose, eyebrows, around and in the ears and the scalp. Over the years I have had some minor psoriasis patches in the usual places: elbows, knees, back. Nothing compared to having it on your face all the time. Facial psoriasis combined with quite severe acne at times; great confidence builder..

Medications tried: ointments, cremes (corticosteroids) and all sorts of anti-biotics, tar-shampoo, Chinese herbal medicine, accu-pressure, Roaccutane, Neoral.. Sometimes these treatments help a little (for a while), but mostly it makes it worse in the long run. Since most medical ointments and cremes are not to be applied on facial skin, options run out fast. Radical treatments like biologicals might offer a last resort but for now I don't want to go there.

Happy to say that I recently found coconut oil to be the friendliest stuff there is for my skin. It's not a miracle treatment (there is no such thing) but for me it keeps it my skin relatively clean and relaxed. On top of that, it's healthy, multi-purpose and doesn't make you smell like a coconut. You can cook with it as well.

Any other people with facial psoriasis on this forum? So far I have never met anyone who has a similar skin condition. I'd like to compare notes. Smile

Cheers, Martijn

Hi Martijn.

Sorry to hear about your plight. Its a very familiar story to me,
I used to suffer with severe scalp Psoriasis, it also spread to my forehead and either side of my nose. I used to put on steroid creams although you are not supposed to, to control it, and before a trip to the barbers for a haircut I would start to prepare days before by diluting betnovate with Vaseline to soften the scales on my scalp. I found Bio oil was quite good at stopping it looking so fierce. I am sure it does the same job as your Coconut oil.
As you say Facial Psoriasis is not good for ones self confidence. I also had my body arms and legs smothered with it. ( You dont say if you have it anywhere else)
I am now on Fumaderm tablets 4 a day and my scalp and face and everything else stays clear.
I only recently found this forum and it is nice to know you are not alone out there

Best wishes Jim

Hello Martijn Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

Have you met our resident Biker Caroline, she is from the Netherlands too. You may be interested in talking with her as her treatment is available in your country. Until you find her you could read up on her thread here: Dimethylfumarates and Psoriasis

Re Coconut Oil I'm a big fan and you can find out more about it here: Coconut Oil

For your face you could try Dexeryl if you can get it in the Netherlands.

Regards.

Fred.

thnx for all the warm welcome messages.

To clarify: I have had periods of severe psoriasis on my entire body. Luckily , these periods were sporadic and haven't occurred for 5 years now. I don't really mind psoriasis on my elbows, knees, etc. since it's easy to cover up with clothing. It has never left my face though.

I'm mostly hoping to find people who also have facial psoriasis, and discuss coping methods other than systemic or topical pharmaceuticals (their side-effects aren't exactly mild).

For now I'm rocking the lime and the coconut..

Hi and welcome! I have some facial psoriasis around my eyes, ears (inside and out), and scalp. Sorry, I gave up on creams and lotions a long time ago and currently on Stelara. However, now my PsA is kicking my butt.

Hello Martijn,
I'm glad that you have found this place and hopefully you will find something here that will help you. My ears give me alot of grief and I apply lots of E45 cream and I use Dovonex when they are really bad. My doctor is changing my perscription for Silkis which is OK for the face apparently. The sun is good too if you can get some, 20-30 minutes a day will really help (though slightly rubbish advice for the onset of autumn Doh )
Good luck
Lady B
