Hi tanlou.

I always take my DMF with a big meal as this measure greatly ameliorates the side effects. Fumaderm is a slow release form of the drug so doing the same should slow things down a bit further. I have only started getting flushes on a 600 mg single dose, but fortunately I do not find this side effect unpleasant.

Hope it works out for you.

Cheers,

Bill

Hi Bill,
As far as i know, but maybe Jim can fill in, Fumaderm is not slow release, but delayed release. It releases not in the stomach but in the intestines, but it has no slow release in the intestines. It just releases over there.

Hi Caroline,

Thank you for the clarification. I have read of the formulations being both enteric coated and slow release, but of course I only have first hand knowledge of the raw material. The greater efficacy of the larger dose in my case makes me think that the efficacy relates to the rate of absorption and is non-linear.

Cheers,

Bill

Hi Bill
I have just been looking around to find an answer and it seems that Fumaderm is just enteric coated but it's ms stablemate tecfidera is slow release

An interesting aside Bill is on an ms forum there is a guy there who makes his own " tecfidera" type tablets in Germany

Hi Bill,
Do you mean that because you use dmf in a direct way it is more efficient then when you would use it slow release?

The whole idea of Psorinovo being slow release is that it is still efficient because it uses the pure DMF, unlike Fumaderm with additives, but on the other hand reduces the side effects because of the slow release.

Cheers,

Caroline

P.s. I have heard from a farmaceut that tecfidera was not slow release but your information is that it apparently is.

Hi Caroline,

I was wondering how different formulations affect DMF's efficacy. My own observation is of larger doses taken less frequently having a similar efficacy to smaller doses taken more frequently. So I can get the same response from 2.1 grams weekly that I used to get from 3.6 grams weekly. I also wonder whether the specific actions of the drug vary according to the rate of absorption. Much is still unknown about this drug, but I am glad that it is working so well for me.

Cheers,

Bill
