Hi I've just joined and wondered if I could pick someone's brains? I've had p for 10 years I've got plaque p 90% covered and nail p I'm not sure how to work out my p score? I'm using dovobet and it's great at clearing it but the minute I stop using it I'm covered again and worse! I've been trying to decide weather to go to tablet treatment but they worry me. I've been offered methotrexate but I'm unsure. I have bowel stomach trouble also so I'm unsure if I'd be prescribed the fumaderm? One more thing (sorry) I think I may have psoriatic arthritis just wondering how you find out if you do? Thankyou and hope someone can advise me on some new treatment x

Hi Jen and a big Welcome to the club. Here you have found a small but friendly bunch of sufferers who share our experiences and talk of our treatments in the safety of the club environment.
As far as your treatment is concerned I would try to warn you off methotrexate as it is not effective for PSA, you should not worry in my opinion about Fumaderm side effects as it works in the intestine not in the stomach. I'm sure some one with better knowledge than me will give you chapter and verse about it.
Re topical treatment, they are only ever going to treat the skin not the cause, so tablets or injections is the next step, there are many other treatments if Fumaderm worries you there are lots of biological treatments in the health boards if you can't find them I will post a link to them
Biological Treatments For Psoriasis
I'm not sure about how to get diagnosis for PSA but I suspect it will involve a visit to a rheumatologist
Re psoriasis score the link below should explain it for you

Hello Jen Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

Dovobet has a nasty habit of making things worse when you stop using it, it's best to come off it gradually instead of just stopping. It's great for getting the job done, but you do have to be careful where you use it and the recommended treatment period is 4 weeks.

Re Methotrexate: I do wish they would stop prescribing this for treating psoriasis, yes it can help but in my opinion it's poison. My opinion would be say no to Methotrexate, however you may not get the chance to move to something else until they have tried it. Wall

Re Fumaderm, there are lots of threads here about it try the search facility to find out more, you've already met Jim he does very well on it as do some others on here. Caroline is a great source of information and she can tell you more, although she doesn't use Fumaderm she uses Psorinovo which is similar though not available to you in the UK on NHS.

As for psoriatic arthritis: Do you have bad lines and pitting on your nails, and are they lifting away from the nail bed? this is a classic sign of Psoriatic Arthritis.

Don't worry you're not alone and you will find a lot of help and support on Psoriasis Club from real people in the same boat as yourself.

My personal opinion in your case, would be to fight for your rights and tell them to stick Methotrexate where the sun don't shine, refuse to have it as it's your body at the end of the day. Having said that some say it works, but no it won't help psoriatic arthritis even though they say it will.

Regards.

Fred.

HI Jen. Welcome. Treatment regimes seem to take time to sort out. Finding a good doctor helps. I have has psoriasis for many years. Simponi (monthly injection) has helped with the PsA and possibly helped my psoriasis a bit. Vitamin D also seemed to help. I did try medication years ago and would nit do it again as I believe it had a negative effect on my liver. I hope your journey to find treatments that work for you is smooth.
