Sooo, today I had my first flare of PsA while on Cimzia. Had to take a double dose of Celebrex. Talking to the Rheumatologist's nurse, she said she wants me to talk to Dermatologist about UV. I have an appointment on the 5th. I had a small flare of psoriasis on my tounge; I really don't think UV is an option. This is the third TNF that has no effect or made my psoriasis worse. I could always add poison. The only other biologic that is not a TNF and has returned a secondary endpoint is Orencia. However, it does not work for the back. Any ideas?

Planning is a task for your specialist, so ask. I am still getting back pain after almost 30 months on DMF. The bit that annoys me is that each increment of correction of itself causes inflammation, so sometimes I wonder whether the pain is from a correction or relapse. The disease can be a real bugger, but at least there are analgesics for the rough patches. Hang in there and keep positive. Recovery can be a very slow process.

Cheers,

Bill

I cannot legally get DMF in the states. There are three companies that hold patents.

I guess you mean products with DMF are blocked, because bare DMF, I call it the "Bill's" stuff, cannot be patented.
Can't you order from abroad? Or will that be stopped with customs?
Which would be strange, because you could order many things from abroad of which probably lots of them violate U.S. Patents.
Of course the last options is the expensive one. It can easily be financially impossible for you.

Caroline is correct. DMF is an industrial chemical used to make paints and glues among other things. Any patent would be long expired. I tried to get some from a US company but I was refused. No problem getting it from China, but it is a restricted drug in Australia since Tecfidera was approved, although you can get an exemption for non-therapeutic commercial use. Can be made with fumaric and sulphuric acids and methanol (all legal).

Cheers,

Bill

Sorry, but am I going to have to disagree. While the active ingredient may not be under patent, there are three other drugs on the market that use the active ingredient, DMF. Simply not worth taking a chance. Besides, I would never be able to find a doctor willing to do this...

Are you saying that there are 3 dmf drugs available in the U.S. or do you mean worldwide?

The patent for using DMF to treat psoriasis has long expired. How many companies make aspirin? Do they all need a patent? But I agree with you about finding a doctor to prescribe it to you being extremely difficult. It would be next to impossible for me to do as much in Australia. It is a shame.

Cheers,

Bill
