Hi everyone, I am Ando Urukwe 37 years old from Nigeria Africa. I have psoriasis for 4 years running. Initially, I thought it was sort a spiritual attack not until the patches spread all over my body. My skin is dilapidated..Contacted a dermatologist, he said no cure that is a rare skin condition in the tropic...mostly common in the developed world. He recommended some cream for me..Nothing work. Went to another skin clinic in Zaria Nigeria, clinic was established in 1920 ...try no improvement. Try dieting...cut nightshade, sugar, alcohol, ..less improvement...now iam using coconut oil.the skin is getting darker but the flaring and small scaling is still there. Notice this days that I need to shower at least 3 times a day and rob coconut oil to have small relive . It's frustrating sometimes. I'm tired. Any assistance in the forum is heartily well..My question is has any one cure of Psoriasis?

Hello Andro and Welcome to the forum. You have found a good place to come and get information and support for your psoriasis. But no there is no cure, and depending on how bad your psoriasis is should give your dermatologist an idea which treatment might work for you next.
If you say creams arent working ..... There are many other ways to treat it , but I know nothing of your health system in Nigeria, and what is a available in your country
Look through the prescribed treatments here and learn what others are using.
I wish you luck and hope the forum will help you find a treatment that works for you

Hello Ando,

Welcome to psoriasisclub. It is really possible that you will find something with us. But unfortunately, as Jim already says, there is no cure. Also we did not find any up to now. The cause of the disease seems to be so deep into our genes that it is not easy repairable.
Creams, potions, except for coconut oil, all finally don't help.
At a certain point you will end with the medications in several ways.
Cheapest are medications like MTX, which to my opinion should be avoided.
There are a lot of others like Acetretin and the dimethyfumarates, that are more expensive, but if used well, they might help. For DMF to be cheap take a look at what Bill is publishing.
Then on the expensive side there are the biologicals, with Stelara as one of the best, but it depends what works for you as everyone is different.

We over here don't know on your financial resources over there in Nigeria, nor about your healthcare system. At least read here in the forum, ask your questions, and talk to your dermatologist.

Cheers,
Caroline.

Hello Ando  Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

I can't add much more that what Jim and Caroline have already said, and I will also add "There Is No Cure" so unfortunately you are going to have to manage it. This can be done but it comes down to what is a available to you in Nigeria, so the best I could suggest would be to follow what your dermatologist is suggesting.

If it helps we do understand how you feel, and it must be so frustrating when you read us Europeans saying the Sun does help us yet you have Sunshine and psoriasis.  Doh

Like the others said, have a good read through some threads in Prescribed Treatments For Psoriasis and Natural Treatments For Psoriasis and see if you can find something that is available to you.

Regards.

Fred.

Welcome Ando! I can't really add much either to what's been said. Personally I've found that creams can help with moisturizing and helps minimally with itching but don't really offer much long term relief. There are a lot of treatments available that do help and it's a matter of finding what is available to you. I'd suggest finding a dermatologist to work with you and ask questions about treatments, you'll find a lot of info here that can help you regarding different types of treatments. I hope you find one that works for you. Smile

Hello house, I appreciate your concern and encouragement. However, you guys also scared me by saying no cure yet. Here in Nigeria, the herbalist and other traditional medicine houses are saying its a spiritual attack. The dermatologists/skin experts (though few in number) are saying its a common skin condition in developed world and strange in the tropics. Online materials ascribed the cause to genetic, gut leakage, hormone, etc. It's well.so so downfounded. I'll just continue with taken of fruits and coconut oil. I pray for grace to persevere in avoiding nightshade, alcohol, sugar, flour etc. I have a friend that just returned from Bremen Germany.she claimed, she had psoriasis and was cure there by exposure to UV light and dead sea salt solution bath. I saw dark spots on her skin. Was it early detection and treatment that help her situation? or what can we ascribed it to...luck?. On Tuesday 23 June 2015, I went to an office to access the internet overnight and was so ashamed of the particles that fell off me and littered the office floor. Just hope one day I would stumble over something that will help cure this condition. Let me not bore you people.Cheers .Ando

You are not boring me Ando .... Yes it's disappointing to learn there is no cure, but it is controllable

Your friend who was "cured" whilst in Germany is probably in remission . I hope for her sake it stays away
I'm am relatively clear at the moment and have been for nearly 4 years ... But it's the tablets I'm on that are holding it at bay, so I am constantly wary and hope I don't get another flare up

Uv light used to clear my skin and is very effective, but usually the results are short term and psoriasis creeps back after a few weeks or months.

If there were a "cure" believe me we would have heard about it and would be shouting about it for all to hear
I wish you and your friend good luck in your quest for a cure, but I think you would be better looking for a treatment that will control it

Hello Ando like Jim said you're not boring us, it's all about sharing.

I don't know your spiritual beliefs and I don't want to offend, but believe me there are enough people and evidence plus years of experience around the world to prove that it is not a spiritual attack. It is classed as a skin problem and usually treated by a dermatologist, however the exact cause is still not 100% clear and that is why there is no cure.

To try and understand a little bit about how it affects ones body have a read of this thread: T Cells the soldiers in your body

As for your friend, it's like Jim said "It has gone into remission" sometimes even a change in life style or an event in ones life can send it into remission, but it also works the other way around and can come back at any time. Even the most expensive new line of treatments don't always work for some people, and I doubt you will ever find a person 100% clear (they may get close to 100% but it's there for the rest of your life and can strike back at any time) Not what you wanted to hear I know, but I like to tell it how it is when people are looking for a cure. You will not find a cure, but you can learn to live with it and treatments or even a positive mind can keep it under control.

Good luck Ando and don't worry about posting, you are not boring us.  Smile

One other thing Ando
You will see "cures " advertised all over the Internet most if not all are scams at best, and a way to empty your wallet, there are a few things that may moisturise your skin and help with the itch. But to be honest you are far better keeping your money in your wallet, and as Fred says work with a dermatologist.
The things you find in this forum are all methods used by members who have nothing to gain by posting what they use . Non of them will ask for money for their knowledge so what you read on here is genuine and not listed by a business trying to make money from you. It's from fellow sufferers trying to help each other
