Hello!

What can I say, well.... I've had P since I was 10...so that's 35 years of fun...visiting dermos, some of which were interested, some of which were merely passing through never to be seen again and some who should really never have started a career in medicine! The P has always been bad and I've always avoided the riskier (?) treatments and opted for topical with some UVA thrown in for good measure ...but it's getting to the point now where I'd quite like some relief - or at least enough time to be able to teach my small children how to swim.. So, I'm going back to the Derm...and armed with the advice I've already seen here and undoubtedly some questions I'll pose here too, see what can be done.  Onwards! And thanks for reading.

Hi Purple music and Welcome to the club, I'm glad to hear that you have been reading up on various treatments here , yes Psoriasis is a life sentence but now you have found us there's no need to be alone with it .

You will find us all very friendly and always willing to talk over your options to enable you to be prepared with foreknowledge of what you could discuss at the hospital.

We are all sufferers of psoriasis here so you will not be chatting with any vested interest, the site is very strict about that .... But saying that there are not many rules and it's a fun place to come ... Smile

The health boards are more or less serious, but the off topic section is well used and we have a chatting thread, members photos, a bar to have a virtual drink and a chat. And much more I hope to see you over there sometime. Thumb
In the meantime if you have any questions or can't find something you wanted to know just put a post either here or in the chatting thread and someone will pick it up .
Thanks for posting
Jim

Welcome! This is a great place to ask questions and the members are really great about sharing what has worked (and what hasn't) with their treatments. It's also just a fun, relaxing place to be. Smile

Hello PurpleMusic  Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

Yes sometimes we get to a stage where it is time to move on, I managed for years on creams and the odd painkiller to get me by until one day it stuck me down with vengeance. I was a bit apprehensive about going onto my first Bio but I had no choice as I had become covered in scales and unable to move, it turned out I was pleasantly surprised and ended up getting my life back.

So yep I would say try something else, you will probably get offered one of the oral tablets first so I would read up on them and go armed with your questions.

A search will find you more on each one from our members, but these are the ones you may get offered in the UK.

Methotrexate

Acitretin

Ciclosporine

The may offer you Fumaderm but as it's still new to the UK it may not be available to you yet.

If you do want to read more about the Bio's this thread will help Biological Treatments For Psoriasis But I doubt you will be offered them.

Regards.

Fred.

Hello PurpleMusic,

Welcome to the forum.
Indeed sometimes it is time to look for some relief, and we over here can assure you, it is there. Between all possibilities there is also one for you.,
It would be great to have you swimming with your kids Big Grin

Ask away, some of us will kick in.

Caroline
