Just musing.. I wonder if they will end up combining bios? I got taken off Humira because my skin didn’t improve, but I realised after it may have been helping my aches and pains. So how about a bit of Humira and a bit of something else!

I don't see it working. I can't take the TNF's and the others go after different IL's.

Plus you have to add in the different manufacturers involved, so I think it will be forever evolving.

Agree with Fred, it won’t work. It’s too much on your immune system along with various other reasons.

Depending on the severity of your skin and joints, you may find that they might potentially prescribe a biological and an immunosuppressant. I’ve had this personally done for me for my crohns and psoriasis. They don’t like to do this on a long term basis though.

Your dermatologist and rheumatologist will need to work together to find the correct treatment that will help both conditions. It might be you might become a bit of a guinea pig while they test the biologics, but it will be worth it when they find the correct treatment for you

Oh, sorry I see how it sounded - I’m not really looking for myself I was just speculating really on the future of the drugs.. I thought the next progression might be targeting more than one thing, however it probably would be too much of a strain.

Personally I’d have to be very bad and desperate to go back to trying any of the previous drugs like mtx again..

Raised this theory with my biologics nurse today, and she also seemed to think that the future might be bios that target more than one thing at a time.. I said I thought perhaps they wouldn’t be able to because it would make it more dangerous which she disagreed with. Sounds like they might only just be starting with all this..

Yes TL there's a lot of research going on to find the perfect drug and I'm sure in time we will see big advances in treatment, the boffins are certainly looking at the cells responsible for both conditions and hopefully will find a one fits all treatment, but I fear that will be a way in the future yet ....but there are lots of others already in the pipeline and we are beginning to see biosimilars coming to market not here in the U.K. yet, and they being quite effective

What we then need is for our healthcare systems to approve them and get them at a competitive price

That’s really good to know. I’m guessing it would have to be 2 appears biologics that would attack il17s and il23s (I’m thinking stelara and humira for example)

In fact the drug that is targeting more at the same time is a drug that targets IL-17, IL-23, IL-12,  is very versatile and does a lot more in your energy cycle. It is called DMF. It is not in the future but from the past, is approved and it is relatively cheap... eek Snigger
