Welcome to the club.....

I am on acitretin too, low dose though but it seems to be keeping everything at bay at the moment *touch wood*.
Enjoy having a look around, lots of good info on here along with lots of lovely people......  Smile

Thank you for the welcome.  I've been started on the low dose too and was worried that it would not work.  Take hope from your message that it may.

Hi Wooleyb

I forgot to ask you if the side effects of acitretin stay the same or do they subside as time goes on.  All new to this but hopefully I will be able to answer questions instead of asking all the time.    Yep

Meggy
Hi Meggy

To be honest I think acitretin affects people in so many different ways, I feel really lucky that it is keeping my psoriasis at bay (for now), but I know others are not so lucky!  Not really noticed any significant side effects personally, maybe a dry mouth from time to time but that could be put down to so many other things (I am not a fan of water, so I don't drink nearly enough as I should, more than make up for it with Gin though!! Wink ).

I think you just have to stick with it for a while and see how you go, if you are happy that it is controlling your condition then great but if it isn't after time then there are so many other things out there, so even if it doesn't work, don't give up hope that something will control it.

Good luck with it though and fingers crossed it works sufficiently for you....

Welcome Meggy,

Welcome to the club, this is indeed the best place not only for support but for great advice that I've found for ppl with our little gift.. Psoriasis.. the gift that keeps on giving even when you get up in the morning wishing that it would stop giving.

Acitretin is one of the more interesting treatments i've tried unlike a couple of the treatments that left me running for the loo, this wont do that. But it does give you a super power / party trick which was kinda funny. When i took it, it made my hands sticky and i could lift up paper without grasping it, if i laid my hand flat on a sheet of paper i could pick up the sheet.

Ok ok... I know its not marvel super hero super powers but it made me chuckle.

Seriously though, welcome and if you need anything just give a yell, these are great folks to talk to.

Hi Meggy and welcome to the Club  Wave and more importantly the Acitretin gang.

I  would love to be able to tell you your side  effects will be fleeting and not in the slightest bothersome.
Sadly only time will tell.  Confused What I would suggest is patience. One thing this thing isn't is fast.
If you can, get some sun on your blotches it will help speed up clearance.

I had a similar experience to Bav with his paper trick but I lost that super power ages ago. What I do have is a recurring 2 weeks of dry lips, 2 weeks of peeling hands, followed by 2 weeks of peeling feet. What I don't understand is why after loosing a bucket full of skin I haven't lost any weight  Angry

You are in the best  and safest place on 'tinternet and the inmates are always more than happy to answer any of you questions. All you will ever get is good clean honest answers from fellow sufferers.

Hello Meggy.
I'm on week 10 of Acitretin 25mg. It hasn't been plain sailing but my psoriasis is really bad. However it has cleared up most of my body since taking it and getting some sun. Just my face and scalp that remain red and itchy. I have had some side effects but everyone is different. It made my psoriasis worse initially although my dermatologist doesn't agree with that. Wishing you good luck. Please ask if any questions.
