It is clear that one of the causes of Psoriasis is a genetic dependency of one of your ancestors and that in that cases it is very wel possible that siblings or other family also can have Psoriasis (or Psoriatic Arthritis of course), be it brothers or sisters, or nephews, nieces  and cousins.

But... it is a bit unclear if this is the only cause. Or that there would always be a genetic component necessary for getting Psoriasis.
As Fred always says: “Anyone can get Psoriasis.”, and I myself think that there are more causes, at least bacteriological causes, that make it possible that you will get Psoriasis  at a certain moment in time.

I wonder how this is with the members of Psoriasisclub. Do you have ancestors or siblings or perhaps children who also have Psoriasis? Or do you think there is no genetic cause involved in your Psoriasis?

Therefore I made a poll, where you can tick one or more possible relations or no relation at all.

I hope you like this approach and maybe it will tell us something. I have set the time limit of the poll to 30 days which should give most of the regular visiting members a possibility to vote.

I have ticked no relations, however, my father suffered from mild eczema so there may be the genetic predisposition that lead to the onset of psoriasis following the trigger event which I believe was a bite from a whitetail spider in the mid nineties.

My husband always thought he had eczema that never went away. Now that we know so much about psoriasis it is obvious that he has had it, albeit mild, all his adult life.

Thanks guys.
Very interesting to read about.

Eczema and Psoriasis are basically very different as a disease, but I can imagine that it may be difficult to sometimes see the difference.
It is even so that “if” you have had eczema in your youth, that your chance on getting Psoriatic Arthritis is greatly reduced. (Source: Enes Hadjarbegovic, a dermatologist who promoted on atopic diseases).

I’ll add my own experience to it. And that is that my dad and my sister both have Psoriatic Arthritis. Both reasonably at bay right now.
And I know my trigger was in a period with a lot of stress.

I can go back at least 3 generations. All maternal side.
My mother had it quite badly thorough her teens into her lat 40s. Her mother only had short bouts of mild Psoriasis. My great grandmother had Psoriasis throughout her life from what I can tell. Also my mother's sister died from Chrone's disease.

So yes I'm guessing that there is a link somehow.

I have 2 brothers, they both had 2 sons and between them they have 5 children. So from 14 immediate family I'm the only one with psoriasis.

If I look a bit further my Dad came from a family of 5 children, none of them had psoriasis. My Mum cam from a family of 14 children and none of them had psoriasis. I have a lot of cousins and don't know of any of them or their children having psoriasis.

Most of my family know that I have psoriasis, so if their were others I would have thought it would have been mentioned. But we have to remember that some hide it, so I can 't be 100% sure as some I have never met but my Mum knows most of them and she would have said if their were others.

So on that basis I had no choice but to vote "No relation at all"

Good thread by the way.  Thumb

I've put none because as far as I know non of my grandparents on mother's or father's side suffered with it,although my grandfather on my mother's side is an unsure as he cleared off when my mum was a toddler . My mother and father certainly didn't have it, I had  3 sisters non of them had it to my knowledge, they all had children that are now adult with children of their own and non show signs of psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis . Both my children now in their mid 40s and their children now teen-agers show any sign of it
So I'm the odd ball in the family, and glad it hasn't reared its head in my offspring Thumb

My mother had it but I think that my Gran had it as well on my mothers side. My father died when I was 5 years old so I am not sure about that side of the family.

No genes, though I did like wearing Levi’s when I was living in Berlin :29:

None of my rellies had it as far as I know.

I’m the first to have it, it was caused by extreme stress.
