hello - let me give a brief history. Been in the Semiconductor field for 20years and am required to wear either nylon or nytrile gloves, sometimes with a cotton/elastic liner.

Developed a 'rash' in the past 3 months. Started on the wrist then spread across the tender area of both hands between fingers/top of hands. I call it a rash but it is more like very tiny blisters that will weep a clear slippery fluid. And of course, very itchy and burning. Eventually the blisters open and go away then left with dry and splitting skin.

One thought is that it could be a reaction to my own sweat, the cotton liners become saturated quickly depending on activity. I am trying to change the cloth liner more often, to keep a dry barrier against my hands.

My treatment of late has been to allow my hand to dry. Then apply liberal amounts of Vaseline.

Thoughts from others that may be in the same industry?

I've tried attaching a photo, i hope it came through ok.

Thanks everyone

Hi I had a look at the picture and your hand looks sore . It doesn't look like psoriasis but I'm no doctor but what might be better as a moisturiser rather than Vaseline is extra virgin coconut oil which can be go from your local supermarket other than that I can't help but others may have other ideas

The photo didn't come through as google photos won't act as a host so has to be somewhere like imgur.com or Flickr there are other hosting sites but those two seem to be the most popular with our members

Welcome basement  Wave

Unfortunately I can't see the picture but have you consulted your doctor or a dermatologist?

He or she would be able to diagnose what's on your hands and prescribe an appropriate treatment.

I'm hoping that it's something that is not chronic.

See the below post for types of psoriasis and a few pictures

Types Of Psoriasis Explained

Good luck!

Hi Basement,

Welcome to psoriasisclub.

That finger indeed does not look very convenient. But I agree with Jim, that it doesn’t look like Psoriasis of any kind that I know of.
It can also be a kind of eczema or indeed kind of a skin reaction to either the gloves, or to the substances that you are in contact with in your work. I don’t know if that is so in the semiconductor business.

It is worthy a try to go for the virgins coconut oil. It will soften your dry skin and reduce the itch.

And as KatT says, consult a doctor preferably a dermatologist.

I don’t have more ideas to offer.

Cheers,
Caroline

@KatT, if you do a quote, you can see the link in the IMG tags, is is a link to a google photos page, not directly to the image, so there is still a way to see it. Smile

Hi Basement, welcome to the club!

That looks very sore!!  I had palmoplantar pustular psoriasis, which affects hands and feet, but it doesn't look like mine, that said it can come in many different forms etc so you should go and get it checked out by your doctor / dermatologist for sure.  It also looks a little bit like pompholyx (a kind of eczema), which can be caused by many things, detergents, sweating, soap, metals.

I am certainly no doctor though, so you should get it checked out when you can.

Good luck!

Hi, nice to meet you Wave

I can’t see your picture but I can imagine from the description. It sounds like contact dermatitis with the little blisters but could eczema or be something else. If you ask the doc you’ll hopefully get some cream and you could push to see a dermatologist.

Is it possible in your job to wear cotton gloves instead of nitrile or does cotton give off too much dust? Or possibly rubber finger stalls so it doesn’t cover your whole hand?

Doesn't look like psoriasis to me either, but as the others say we are not doctors. You have in your profile that you were diagnosed with plaque psoriasis in 1991, that certainly is not plaque psoriasis so you should check with your doctor to see what is going on.

You are using loads of Vaseline, that could be a bad thing. Vaseline is a petroleum and it could be making things worse, also using a lot will stop your skin from breathing.

I'm with the others, try coconut oil. But you must see a doctor or preferably a dermatologist .

Welcome to Psoriasis Club by the way.  Wave

*I will move this thread to Psoriasis And Psoriatic Arthritis Topics where it is better suited.

thank you all so much with suggestions and ideas.
Seems the consensus is to first contact a Dr., and try using virgin coconut oil.

Yes psoriasis is difficult to treat and what works for one may not work for another. Also it is not easy to diagnose and we could end up making it/or something else worse if we get it wrong.

Some skin problems can be cured, but psoriasis needs management as it's your friend for life.

Good luck and please do come back and tell us how it went, your input could help others in the future.

But even if it's not psoriasis, you are a member here now and welcome to join in if you wish.

Not anything I've experienced but I did find this info:

Nylon is a man-made fabric that can cause some people to experience an allergic reaction when skin contacts it. A skin irritation (contact dermatitis) can result from all sorts of fabrics, but man-made fabrics composed of synthetics and dyes are more apt to cause skin irritants than cotton and other natural fabrics.

You say "sometimes" with a cotton liner, is it better or worse when you use the liner?

And I agree that your best bet is to talk it over with your doctor.

Welcome
