Hi all,  I am new to the Psoriasis club but unfortunately not new to Psoriasis.  Up to now I have mostly managed my psoriasis thru topical treatments but have finally decided to try the more serious stuff as am  just not managing to keep it under control any longer, especially my scalp psoriasis which is now all over my scalp and behind and in my ears.  Am due to pick up my prescription for Skilarence today ?.   Am really nervous of the side effects especially the cramps and diarrhoea. But having read some of the experiences on the forum am feeling a bit more hopeful that I will hopefully be able to deal with them.

From what I have read taking with plenty of water and bland food is important and starting slowly.  Starting today with 1 30mg tablet. Any other recommendations.  Thanks Jean

Hello Jean,

Welcome to psoriasisclub.

We hope you have a pleasant time over here, there is a lot of info, and we have people who also are on Skilarence, like Jim for instance.
According to Fred, we have a full blown DMF-gang... Big Grin (which may be kinda true)

Indeed, do take the medication in during a meal and perhaps close with some yoghurt.

I myself use it also, and it keeps my Psoriatic Arthritis perfectly at bay.

Cheers,
Caroline.

Hi Jean and a warm welcome  Welcome to the forum. I'm sorry to hear that psoriasis is getting worse for you , but pleased to hear that you will be starting Skilarence.
First I'll give you the good news .... I've been on DMF in the form of Fumaderm and now Skilarence for nearly nine years and have been clear and able to live a normal life without the embarrassment of flaking everywhere and  trying to hide the patches .
I now suffer no side effects apart from an occasional flush

The maybe bad news is it's not fast working (but it will work given a chance )
You may experience abdominal pain on and off as your body tries to adjust to the drug. For me it was quite intense but never lasting for too long. I've since learned a few ways I could have eased that .
You may also experience flushes that make you feel hot from head to toe ...this is a good sign and shows things are beginning to happen

I tell you this not to worry you but to forewarn what might happen , if you start to get side effects or have any questions just shout and someone will be here to try to help
Another point is do follow the dosing build up and don't try to rush things

I wish you the best of luck with the Skilarence and hopefully you will get long time clearance like I have and can almost forget you have psoriasis
Jim

Thanks to everyone for your kind and supportive responses.  I certainly feel better knowing you guys are there to answer questions and give advice based on your own experiences.  It’s so valuable as I start this journey.  I have taken my first tablet this evening.  So far so good ?
