Quick look up gives the reason why - no paid maternity leave in the US. I hadn’t realised.. It’s hard to breastfeed when you have to go back to work. Yes, there’s also those who don’t get along with it, but no paid maternity leave is bound to be a big reason.

That would be incorrect - as long as you have 1 full year of employment (full time) you can take up to 4 months of maternity leave and both parents qualify and it’s paid roughly around 2/3 (whats left after taxes). But after that you might have to return (depends on employer).

Yeah we're like a lot of little countries with each state having some control over certain things and then one large country where some things are for everyone. A bit confusing at times. I know there have been complaints in the news, usually over women who don't feel their employer has made arrangements if they need to pump at work but personally I don't know anyone who has had issues with leave and/or employers who won't work with them.
