Well, I've been on MTX now for almost 6 years, I have never had any serious side effects and initially it worked well for me.
My current dose is 12.5mg once a week with folic acid every other day of the week.
I have blood tests and a follow up appointment with my Dermatologist every 12 weeks.
I have been monitoring my progress constantly, and the last 12 month's, the MTX has really not been working and my patches of scaling have started to re-appear.
I have been approved for Biological treatments, but the NHS are very reluctant to prescribe it for me.
I have just managed to secure an appointment, in 2 weeks time, so I am now going to try and push for an alternative treatment.
When I go on holiday and spend prolonged time in the sun, I stop taking the MTX for the duration of my stay, as the sun does the job very well and I like a few sherbets when on holiday.
My next appointment is on 14th March, I will post the achievments (or lack of) when I have had this consultation.
I have been taking MTX now for 5 years & 10 month's, so it's time for a change.

I wish all the best to everyone
Good Luck
Micky

Hi Micky sorry to here Methotrexate has given up on you, it's always difficult when a treatment stops working. It's great you are approved for a biological treatment, but if you don't get one can I recommend Fumaderm, it's not an easy drug to get on with at first, but for me after suffering all my adult life with psoriasis, this is the first time I've been clear for so long (5years )
Just a thought Thumb

Thanks Jim, I will be going to my appointment armed with all sorts of research, but we are talking about the NHS....!!!
I can only try, but I am going to be very persistent, I need to do something else that works.

All the best
Regards
Micky

The beauty of Fumaderm is that it's cheap compared to most treatments, although it's not licensed here it is available, I was told it costs the NHS around £2 a tablet so in the same cost range as methotrexate and a fraction of the cost of biologicals Thumb

I found Stelara failed after about 6 years, and when you look at our poll not many have got past that so yes it could be time for a change.
Longest time on a successful treatment for psoriasis

There are plenty of other treatments available now, if you do want to read up on the Bios this thread will help: Biological Treatments For Psoriasis

Well, thats me been on the MTX now for 6 years, and nothing bad has really happened at all.
Still doing the 12 week blood tests, I am currently on 15mg weekly, and to be honest, it's not doing a bad job.
My Creatnine levels in my blood tests are slightly high, but nothing to worry about, thats just me.
I have never had any adverse side effects and it has never affected my quality of life, so I guess I'm one of the lucky one's.
Unfortunately, I don't get chance to get on here as much as I would like, but I will try and do updates at fairly regular intervals.

Best Regards to one and all

Micky

Hello Micky good to see you around, and even better to hear you're still doing well on Methotrexate. I'm often knocking it when talking with others, but this will be a good thread to show those thinking of using it that we are all different.

Long may it continue.

Had to perservere with it for a long time, and then get to see the consultant to up the dosage, but I've now found the happy medium.
It's only taken 6 years to get sorted....!!!

Good Luck to anyone else who wants to try it...

That's great to hear positive reports about Methotrexate 6 years and going strong is brilliant, I wish my experience with it had been as good but it was not for me ....but always pleased to hear of success stories Thumb
Can I ask do you also have Psoriatic arthritis .....I'm sure you have said somewhere here, but was wondering if the Methotrexate was working on that as well
