Fri-03-11-2017, 22:26 PM (This post was last modified: Fri-03-11-2017, 22:29 PM by Hanna. Edited 1 time in total.)
So summer is over, and over the last 3 months my psoriasis began to flare.
I started taking the pill 2 months ago and this seemed to speed my flare up, i was leaving flakes everywhere.
I havent felt like this in a long time, but I started to feel very self concious.
With my oldest starting school I am meeting new people and i am aware again of my appreance, i would even be at friends and notice I was leaving flakes where I sat.
I want to take the boys swimming but just cant face it, not just because of how I look but the thought of the pain I will in after.
I havent felt this way for some time now, and have mentally fought psoriasis so that I was ok with how I am.
So I caved, and rang for a refferal which is on the 23rd nov.
Im hoping to ask if i can be tested for any possible conditions that psoriasis might be a sympton of, and if there are any local NHS holistic types about I might be able to see.
Im already feeling doubtful this will happen.
So has anything new been brought up in the last 7 years? that was when I turned my back on the hospital after they said my next move was biologics.
Ive started a gluten free diet over the last 3 weeks, I am seeing some improvements which seems to really be calming my latest flare.

My treatments so far, all the various steriods, uvb (not many sessions left of lifetime allowance, unless its been increased), methotexate a few times and cyclosporin a few times too.
I flare as soon as treatments stop, and it has always come back worse each time!

Oh dear Hanna how well I remember those self conscious feelings and embarrasment leaving flakes all over friends houses

I’m glad you have got a referral, you could ask about acetretin or even Fumaderm that I am on ... it’s given me six good flake free years so far.
Or if you want to try the natural way, which I couldn’t manage but Alan on here has written if his experience How I Cured My Psoriasis By Diet
I hope you can find something to work for you ... and I wouldn’t discount biologicals as they are very good and safe these days
Good luck
Jim

Hello Hanna good to see you back again, though I didn't mean that as in because of psoriasis but as in you were always a respected member of Psoriasis Club. It sure is a bugger this psoriasis and it will always bite back when we don't need it.

I mentally fought psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis for many years, but it does have a habit of fighting back. Sorry but I doubt there are any tests that can be done and holistic isn't going to help. (But that's just my opinion)

Things have moved on a lot and still are looking good for the future, but for now you could ask about Fumaderm or Skilarence which are DMF based and I'm sure the DMF Gang will tell you more.

Another option is a Bio, but they usually hold back till you are really bad or have failed with other treatments. Biological Treatments For Psoriasis

But to be honest the truth is it will always come back and probably worse, some will knock me for saying that but psoriasis is still so difficult to treat and keep under control.

Hi Hanna,

So sad that it’s not going well with you.
A lot has happened. The biologicals are getting better, but as Jim said, you could try Fumaderm or better Skilarence (the same DMF) first.

You could also read my Journal, A different than normal treatment for Psoriasis called Auto-vaccination which takes a completely different approach. Which is.... well I would say, a possibility...

and don´t forget the Enstilar, this a foam which means it is a lot easier to apply and works wonders! Great for usage until the systemicskicks in or for stubborn patches.

Sorry this has flared up. You are in very good company here. I can't help re meds as I am waiting to see a dermatologist in December. It's been over 30 since my last appointment so I'm well out of the loop. But I'm here anytime you need an ear.

Love xx

So today was the day!
I found myself shaking in the waiting room, I hate having to face the fact I suffer so badly with psoriasis.
I went through, ran through my history in tears reminding myself just how awful my skin can get and the times I have been unable to walk due to the pain.

Im no where near this bad, im still covered in psoriasis but since being gluten free the inflamation has decreased and my flakage is minimal. I nearly cancelled my appointment.

With my gluten free diet in mind, I requested a test for coelic diesase and the Derm said she was 100% sure i didnt have It, but agreed to let me have the test. I just need to go back to a gluten diet for the test to work.

After that she asked if I wanted to talk bio's, my reply was, was there any new drugs.

She gave me the info sheets on Apremilast (Otezla) and Dimethyl fumarate

So I pck which one I want at my next appointment in the new year.

It'll be intresting how my skin reacts to changing my diet back, I'm going to aim to try and reduce my sugar intake as I think sugar is a big baddie of mine.

Watch this space I guess.
