Hello everyone
I am newly diagnosed ....turned 50 in March and four days later experienced first ever psoriasis. I'm covered scalp to feet including my face which has caused me to feel anxious and depressed. So far had a short course of oral steroids that did nothing. Topical steroids hardly touched it. Currently using protopic on face and diprosalic on scalp and body. Any advice gratefully received.....

Hello Kentpatient   Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

Are you seeing a dermatologist ? If not ask your GP to refer you to one, that is the best advice I could give.

Don't feel anxious and depressed, everyone here knows what you are going through and we will try to help. Getting diagnosed with Psoriasis is a life changer, but you are not alone now you have found us.

Have a good look around and ask as many questions as you like, we may not have all the answers but you will find a good bunch of people living in the same boat as you willing to help or listen.

Regards.

Fred.

Hi Kentpatient and  Welcome to the club .....sounds like it's hit you hard, little wonder it's causing you anxiety

Are you seeing a dermatologist, or is it just your GP prescribing to you ......it seems as if you need to be seen by a dermatologist and get onto a treatment plan .
I think the best advice I can give us to accept you have psoriasis and try not to stress to much as it's known that stress can trigger or make psoriasis worse
You will find talking with fellow sufferers also helps

Good luck

Hello Kentpatient,

Welcome to Psoriasisclub. As you state feeling axious and depressed is very recognisable for us.
Acceptance of your situation is very hard to achieve, though as Jim said, the way to go, as stress will only worsen it. But I do fully understand how difficult this is.

As it has spread so much with you in such a short time you are likely to bump into the situation that creams, lotions and steroids probably are impossible to apply. It seems there is something in your system (body) that triggered this outbreak of Psoriasis.
This may have been a stressful situation, or an infection of some kind, can you recollect something like that?

So now the search will begin on what will work for you. Luckily you live in a time  where many treatments are available. So try not to worry, there probably will be something for you around that will help you. Indeed get in contact with a good dermatologist.
We can help you to prepare for a visit to him/her.

In the mean time, relax and join in.

Caroline

Hello and welcome.

I'm sorry you have to go through this, we all know how it feels and how desperate it can make you feel.

This forum is a good place to vent about your feelings and frustrations.

unfortunately, you have to go through the list of ointments and steroids and fail them before they give you a better treatment. I think for you UVB or MTX will be first on the list. If you are in Europe, you could also ask for Fumaderm or Skilarence.

It is important to tell your dermatologist how you feel, they don't just look at your skin but also how it is affecting you, so be sure to tell it next time you see your dr.

Hi nice to meet you Wave
Sorry to hear about your experience, I imagine it was a shock, having that extent of psoriasis all of a sudden.

It’s true they want you to try creams, then uvb, then tablets etc, however the dermatologist might take a more fast track approach if you have such a high coverage of psoriasis.

The only advice I’d give is push for attention, and let them know how badly it’s impacting your life.
I have found in the past if it’s very bad that giving your skin a break from water can help, so cutting down on showers may be an unpleasant thought but it might be worth a go to see if it helps.

I hope you find some help soon, and also hope you like it here on the forum.

Thank you very much for your kind words and encouragement. I have seen a dermatologist and also had allergy tests as he said my face was 'atypical' but my body was psoriasis. The allergy tests were all negative.

Thank you. I think the dermatologist is considering a fast track approach as he said I may need something 'systemic' as it is so bad. It has been a real shock and I still can't accept it really.

Thank you Fred. I do have a question...so far I've had three different topical steroid ointments...does it usually take only a few days to see if it is working or a few weeks? And if protopic was going to work how soon would I see an improvement?
