Hi every one! So I am new here and I wanted to get some feedback on taltz. I just started the injections yesterday and it hurt so bad :( do these injections ever stop hurting? I mean I'll take the pain to get rid of the painful psoriasis but these shots are no joke. Thanks!

Hi Marie,

Af first Welcome to Psoriasisclub. Welcome
A place where we share experiences on practically all treatments for Psoriasis.

Myself I am not using a biological, But I know from other members there are mostly two kinds of injection types, a pen type and a normal needle/syringe type. Globally most members says that the pen-type hurts and that the normal needle does do better.

There are a few Taltz users between the members, i think they will kick in with their experiences.

I agree with you, that getting rid of the Psoriasis is more important than the pain. Smile But it is not fun.

Do have fun on the forum though. Mostly there is someone around for a chat.

Cheers,
Caroline

Taltz does seem to hurt more than Stelara, but I have learned to only stick it into my stomach (where I can pinch some skin up). It hurts too much in the thigh so I don’t bother there any more.

Hi Marie and  Welcome to the club it’s good to see you have got Taltz for your Psoriasis it seems to get good results, I’m wondering if you are getting it out of the fridge and letting it warm before injecting. If it’s too cold i have read it can hurt
I myself aren’t on to biological yet so are just suggesting this from what I have read from other members

I will put a note in the free monthly newsletter that might bring more ideas for you, if you aren’t subscribed to  it you can subscribe by clicking Groups and then click on join group .

I hope you enjoy the club which is the only truly independent free Psoriasis club run by sufferers, we are a very friendly group happy to share experiences
Jim

Yes I forgot to say, you do need to warm it up. I don’t find it’s ever any more than a slight sting if i have warmed it up and do it in my stomach. But when I did try the leg it made me yelp!

I don't use Taltz but most Bio's are much the same and come in two types of injector.

The Pen type auto injector and they are the worse in my opinion. Only ever tried them a couple of times and they did hurt.

The pre-filled syringe type are much easier and hardly any pain in my opinion.

Like the others say. Take it out of the fridge for around 20 mins before injecting.

You can get products over the counter to numb the site before taking the shot, usually used by Diabetics but I've never tried them so couldn't comment.

Welcome to Psoriasis Club by the way.  Wave

Hi and a big welcome to the club Marie , after many years injecting MTX and now Stelara I agree wholeheartedly with TL the stomach is the only place to inject, sit down and then you can pinch a good amount of skin (I certainly can Big Grin ) you can then use the syringe holding at the bottom when you get more control . When the needle is in then the hand you were using to pinch the skin can hold the syringe and then you can press it down with the other hand , much easier but as mentioned if it's kept in the fridge like Stelara you need to let it stand for at least 20 mins, I always say 30 mins.
Have a good look around and ask any question and they will be answered by people who have the same problems . Dave

A bit late; but does the needle hurt or when the liquid is injected? I’ve heard that for example humira can sting cause of the citric acid that is used as a preservative, so in that case, it will always hurt a bit.

Stelara doesn’t hurt, but I have found that the needles of my stelara injections are less sharp than the mtx injections I have used. So the injection itself is less comfortable..

And than there is the pen vs syringe, most people report pain with the pens, syringes are better.

Also; I inject straight out of the fridge as I haven’t noticed any difference, but that seems personal Smile

I Haven't been on Taltz but have used both prefilled syringes and autoinjectors and have found that the prefilled MTX didn't hurt, while the Humera stung like a bugger no matter how long it was out of the fridge. The Cosentyx, on the other hand, doesn't hurt at all, I typically leave them out of the fridge for 15min before injecting.
