Hello everyone I hope you are all well as can be and had a lovely summertime.   Today at dermatology appointment I was told my treatment is changing because the cosentyx has stopped being as effective after almost three years.   I am due to start stelara in a month or so.  I was told a nurse will come to my home to administer my injection every time! With cosentyx this only happened on the first occasion so I’m a little confused at this.   Anyway I’m looking forward to possibility of having clear skin once more.  I also thought stelara was an older biologic but I guess the dr has good reason for making that choice.   I would be interested to hear how others have done with the same switch in treatment too, along with side effects.  I’m concerned about any potential weight gain as I’m no lightweight but I did lose weight when I started cosentyx.  This is important to me because I have reduced mobility and find exercise more difficult.    Other news is we moved house a few months ago into a bungalow and it was very stressful so I think it probably had an effect on my psoriasis.   Thanks for reading !

Hi Marcia,

I did the switch but the other way.  From Stelara to Cosentyx.

I did have to go see a nurse for the Stelara injections as it is not available with an auto injector pen.

Prior to Stelara, I was on Humira.

I had no side effects from Stelara, it just didn't work for my PSA.

I didn't notice any weight changes also.

Good luck with Stelara, hope it works for you!

I also had the switch from Stelara to Cosentyx like KatT, so backwards from you. Sadly, neither of them worked for me. I had to go to the hospital and have the Stelara injected (due to the way it was billed through insurance, I live in the US so things are different). I didn't have any weight gain on either the Stelara or Cosentyx, sadly no weight loss either. Confused No major issues with side effects from either.

It's true that Stelara is an older biologic but it seems to have been quite successful for a lot of people.

I hope you get good results!

Hi Marcia I'm sorry to hear the cosentyx isn't working so well but at least they are putting you on stelara I know from what I read here that stelara might be one of the older biologicals but it's also very effective
There are lots of people's experiences here if you put stelara in the search box Search and then tick search titles only .....and have a look at Freds old stelara journal here Stelara round two

I hope you've settled into your new home now and the stress is calming down

Thank you for advice and information I’ll have a look around the site.  Yes we are settling into new home thank you it’s nearer a shop and park for dog, I had to give up driving so we moved back into the town.  I do miss the peace and quiet though!

It's a shame you have had to give up driving Marcia. It would make life very difficult for me if I couldn't drive any longer . I hope you settle down and feel comfortable soon sounds good being near a park.
If you need help on the forum or can't find something just shout there's usually someone fairly close who can answer

Thanks jiml.  Yes I’m trying to navigate around the site and am getting better at finding various things.  Good to know that there is so much information here people have taken time to help others which is brilliant.   I lost my driving licence, long story, had burn injuries from a botched UVB procedure in 2008, in a wheelchair 2 years then on walking sticks.  One day I tripped over sticks and fell badly hurt my lower back in 2012 and have been on heavy duty pain meds since then which are considered over the limit on UK driving laws.   My husband retired last July and we thought a bungalow nearer amenities would be a good idea.  It’s taking a while to get over the stress of moving though but well worth while.

Sounds like you have has a rough time of it Marcia it can't be easy being in constant pain. I hope time will help with that or is it as good as it gets ?
Hopefully now you are settling in the psoriasis will begin to clear up and the Stelara should give you relief

Thank you jiml I hope the psoriasis will start to clear again with the stelara too but I’m not keen on possibility of weight gain I must say.  As far as pain goes I think this is as good as it gets, unfortunately.  But who knows what may be available in the future so here’s hoping.
