Just wanted to say hello...I am still awaiting my official diagnosis after a biopsy...but sadly will most likely to join the psoriasis club.

My story...

About two months ago I developed a ring-like lesion on my bikini line...I was taking swim lessons with my youngest son and figured I probably picked up ringworm at the pool (I have had it before so I thought I knew what it was for sure!)...so I applied some OTC antifungal cream...to no avail

Kept spreading for 2 weeks so I called my derm and she ordered the hardcore rx type anti fungal cream for me...which I dutifully applied twice daily. 2 weeks later STILL no change and STILL spreading and getting very inflamed and basically growing together into one big rash (sigh).

Went into the derms office for her to look at and she did the whole, suck in her breath through her teeth when she saw it...(you know it's bad when they do that!) but she also was pretty sure it was ringworm so she said to either just keep applying the cream and would take time to go away or take the oral anti-fungal (which my husband and I joking called the death pill because of it's side effects)...I decided I had it with the whole thing and was going to take the oral meds. 3 weeks of it and it was still there!!

Derm said there is no way it could be ringworm if the meds had no effect at all...and by this time it's still spreading (bum crack, hands, wrists...typical!) and she thinks it's most likely psoriasis. She took a biopsy to confirm...still awaiting results. Sad face.

That's my story! The derm gave me a steroid cream to use to see if it helps at all. Its just so strange to get a skin condition in the middle of ones life (im 35)...I have never even had the slightest bit of dry skin ever...never use lotion, nothing! At least my husband is understanding...he has extremely bad eczema...so we are going to make quite the pair!

I love any suggestions from anyone else suffering from it in the same location...especially women! Thanks for listening!!

Haha, I just realized the profile question "location" meant location of me, not location of my psoriasis! How the heck do I change that? LOL!

Hello Kirsten,
Well, it is a funny place to live in, groin.... Haha. Big Grin

Never mind, you can change it with User CP.

At first a warm welcome to psoriasisclub.
Within a few hours, I am sure there will be a number of other that will welcome you. That is because we are a friendly bunch of psoriasis sufferers.

At first I would advise to look around a bit, to mingle in discussions and start possibly your own discussion of where you are looking for.
Your current question may be a little wide to start answering right now.
no... It is not a wide question of course, but you may better put it in another place in the forum. I know that there are others that suffer a lot of itchiness, so they may respond.

Anyway have fun with all the others over here.

Caroline

Hello Kirsten Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

First I would say, to be fair some cases of ringworm can look like psoriasis. And he/she is right anti fungal will not help one bit, but at least they have taken a biopsy which is good.

Looking at our poll running What age did you get psoriasis? 35 does come out between 4-7 % But psoriasis doesn't care what age you are what sex, race, etc it just comes and slaps you when it feels like it.

What steroid cream have they recommended as you need to be careful in the genital area, Dovobet themselves does not recommend it's use in the genital region. See here Dovobet Ointment

I would recommend something like Silkis or Dovonex for that area myself, and keep well moisturised with Coconut Oil

Your Husband has eczema so will understand a little of what you are going through, so now you both can chat all night and claim Bragging Rights.

Kirsten obviously I'm not a woman, but I hope it has helped a bit as Men also have problems with psoriasis in the genital area. In fact it's one of the regions rearly discussed but most will have it at some point.

Like Caroline said you will find a friendly bunch always willing to share and support, so just dive on in.

Regards.

Fred.

Hi Kirsten and a big Welcome to the psoriasis club, you have certainly come to the right place for support and information. This site is a safe haven for us psoriasis sufferers we come here and exchange ideas about what is working for us and what sadly isn't . We are spread around the world so it's a melting pot of ideas
The one thing you can be sure of here is a warm welcome and a secure place to talk without anyone trying to sell you a cure.

Regarding changing you location as Caroline has said it can be done in your user control panel which is under the forum banner and listed as user cp. click on that and go to edit profile

I like Sue never had a biopsy when I was diagnosed ( however there were horse drawn vehicles on the road then) times have changed.
I hope the steroid creams work for you and clear it up. It's not unusual for psoriasis to hit at any time it could have been triggered by one of many factors. It's often stress related or for many it's a strep throat. Who knows for sure.
Anyway it's good of you to post here and I look forward to reading the result of the biopsy and I hope for you it's not psoriasis

Pop into the off topic section and have a chat there's usually someone there
At the top of the page is a thread called chatting thread, just say a few words there and I'm sure someone will not be far away for a chat

Enjoy your time here and come back often
Jim

Wave Hello and Welcome!

In your case I think it's good they are doing a biopsy to confirm if it's psoriasis or not. I was misdiagnosed with dermatitis from my gp (which is common from what I've read) but one look from a dermatologist and I got the psoriasis diagnosis.

Steroid creams are short term, help with the itching but that's about it (or so it is with me).

The people here are nice, fun games in the off topic threads (although beware of Fred, he cheats!) Lots of information and support here with people who have been there, are there, and who understand.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! It is nice to have a forum to be able to come and read about actual experiences as we all know that the text book medical info is usually not terribly helpful!

Certainly true Kirsten!
I just posted about some cream that is against itchiness. Don't know if it works though. Maybe others on the forum will react.
