Hello Caldrive  Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

Shame it's not working for your scalp, I'm not much help myself but I'm sure others will have some advise but I just wanted to say hello as you took the time to post an introduction.

Grizzly started a thread that may have some tips once you get past the glitter.  Big Grin Polytar shampoo

Regards.

Fred.

Welcome Caldrive!

I had bad psoriasis on my scalp and am also on Acitretin. How long have you been taking Acitretin? I know I was about to give up hope as the psoriasis cleared quite a bit quicker on places other than my scalp, it took it much longer to clear. I did use a topical from the derm for my scalp that helped. It had steroids in it so I only used it when desperate but it did help relieve the itching when it became so intense. I'd put it on and then a shower cap to let it set and that was the best relief I was able to get until the Acitretin kicked in enough to start clearing it. I also went through a few shampoos before finding that T-Gel worked the best, but honestly it offered only a little relief. I think it was about the 4th-5th month (on Acitretin) before my scalp showed any major improvements. I was also doing the UV treatments as well at the time.

If you've been on Acitretin for awhile and don't feel it is working, I'd definitely talk to your doctor about possibly trying something else out. With having Graves I don't know how that could affect what the doctor might recommend.

Hope you get some relief with your psoriasis soon!

Hello Caldrive,I also have plaque psoriasis and on my scalp.I use a steroid shampoo Clobetasol (prescription)I try to use it when my scalp gets really bad.I also have plaques behind my ears and on my back. Also back of my legs.I moisture several times a day as my skin is so dry.I am currently on Enbrel 50mg shot every Sat.It has helped my Psoriatic Arthritis but slow going on my body.I have been on Enbrel for 4 months so I will give it time to work.Thank goodness all my scales are not seen, they are in places no one can see.I am dreading summer when out comes my bathing suit.Oh well I will go swimming anyway.I use T-gel in between the steroid shampoo. As steroids thin the skin and scalp.I did order dead sea salt on line and bathe 3 times a week with it.I even got bar soap from the same place.Dead Sea Salt Warehouse.I get a 5lb bucket for about $25 and the bar soap is $20 for 4 bars.I was using Epson Salt but was told it has magnesium in it. I am pre-diabetic and was told to not use it.I have lost some weight and that may help my A1C count to go down. Welcome to our group and you will find some very nice people here.I have learned a lot from them.Oh I am not pitching the dead sea salt it's what I use.I enjoy soaking in my tub with it.

Hi Caldrive. First let me offer you a warm  Welcome  to the forum
You have certainly come to a place where there is a wealth of knowledge of the disease in the health Boards and a friendly group of members who are happy to share their experiences with each other in a friendly safe environment free from spam or any sort of cyber bullying
I know very little of Graves Disease I have to admit but being nosey I did look it up and found that it's another autoimmune disease
May I ask if you were prescribed the Acetretin for the psoriasis or the Graves .... I'm just curious and wondered if they were treated similarly

The scalp psoriasis I used to use polytar shampoo it eased the itching but never cleared my scalp the other thing I keep by me just in case is the shampoo Glenda mentions Clobetasol shampoo I was told to apply it and leave for 15 minutes before washing out ... It is prescription but could be worth a try .....
although I no longer use it as im relatively clear on my drug of choice
I hope you find lots of information on here that will be helpful,  and there is usually someone here to answer questions and if they don't know they will usually know someone who does....
So enjoy the forum and I hope to see you later and if you wish come and join us in the off topic section which has a lively following ...

I found that T-Gel gave me very short relief, as in right afterwards but then it was back to itching like crazy. The topical for scalps from the derm offered the greatest relief for me, but even then it was only for a couple of hours. I hope the Acitretin helps you soon, I know that scalp itching and scaling is no fun. But if not, get your doc to try something that does work.

Glad you found your way here, we're a supportive group and love updates so be sure to keep us updated on how you're doing. Smile

Hi Caldrive.
Welcome to the forum.

@Jim, that is interesting that Graves is also an autoimmune disease. I just learnt today, that they found that next to psoriasis, MS, reuma and Crohn, there are other auto immune diseases that react very well on DMF.
It is gaining more and more attention.
I really would wonder what it would do with Graves.
