Hello, have been looking online for some years now for all things p but this is first time joining a board. A little bout me and my journey with p is I have had it for 11 yrs now, started with a little on my legs but within a year they were pretty covered arms started, scalp, ears, feet and then my hands think that was the hardest for me, everything else could be covered. I have tried steroid creams, light treatment 4 times and fumaderm for a year also a gluten free diet for about six months. Next step is the one I'm currently doing trying to decide to take stelera injections this is what has been recommended by dermatologist. I'm in 2 minds one day I'm gonna go for it next day I'm not and the indecision is very annoying. Im actually annoying myself! Have not in the eleven years ever had full clearance from any treatment and the comeback from any I've tried is always worse so this always in my mind too. Anyway that's my p storey so far I guess u have joined to see if I can make some sort of decision as to what next... Thanks Blush

Hello bzybee,

Welcome to the forum. You have found a nice group of people and a lot of knowledge.
We have on topic boards and also off topic boards, which are nice if you want to chat about something else than psoriasis.

What intrigues me immediately on your introduction is that you have used fumaderm but apparantly have stopped that.
Could you elaborate a little on that ?

Have fun on the forum!

Caroline

Hello bzybee  Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

It sounds like you've done the rounds, shame the Fumaderm didn't work out for you some on here have had very good results with it.

I can understand your apprehension about trying Stelara but they wouldn't be recommending it if they thought you wasn't suitable, Stelara has a very good track record and can give very good clearance and in a short time.

I've been on Stelara for almost 5 years now and it's the best thing that ever happened to me as it gave me back my life, it's simple to take with only one simple small shot under the skin every three months. Yes you may at first get some flu like feelings at first but that will settle down, but apart from that and a slight headache after the first few shots I've never experienced anything that stopped me taking it.

Obviously what works for some may not work for others but most Stelara users seem to do well on it, and with the added bonus of no pill popping it's got to be worth a go in my opinion.

Regards.

Fred.

Thanks for the welcomes...
The fumaderm didn't work for me, it helped but still had about 40 percent of my p, that along with the cost of it monthly and for me the exhaustion I felt while on it is why along with the dermatologist decided to come off it. As for the stelera it's good to hear some positive info because some if the info you get from the web is horrible so it's better to hear directly from people on it. Thanks

Hi Bzybee welcome to the forum I'm glad you took the step and posted . When I first started I found it very liberating to be able to chat with others with psoriasis.... Until I joined it was my dark secret.

Here you will find an understanding bunch of sufferers happy to share their experiences good and bad with you.

As Fred said Stelara is a great drug a lot of members are on it or have been with good results. I would go for it if I were you..... do plenty of reading but remember there are thousands of people using these drugs and a very few have problems .... And it's the problems we tend to report on forums... The beauty of this forum is that members do post the successes of treatments as well as the failures and that enables us to make better judgements

I'm glad you joined us and hope you will keep us up to date in whatever treatment you do choose
In the meantime look at the Stelara post here Stelara (ustekinumab) and on there there is a link to the Stelara website
If you have any questions any of the forum helpers will be glad to assist
Just go here [Group Specific] and click on reply and ask away and someone will get back to you

Hi BBee I am on Stelara and it's the only thing that has worked for me over the years and I have had many different treatments in all the years I have had P and PsA. As Fred say's there are a few side effects but they soon go and I have 99.9% clearance , in all the treatments I have had the best I have had was about 80% on MTX which for me built up into really bad side effects though what works for one does not work the same for someone else.
Welcome to the forum, they are all great on here but a bit barmy which helps a lot.

Welcome Bsybee! Sorry to hear the Furmaderm didn't work out for you. We're all different though so what works for one won't necessarily work for another. As you can see, we also have members who use Stelara and are quite happy with the results! I hope it's the one that works for you as well. Smile

I think reading up on any medication will usually make one not want to take it! But, the hope is not to have much side effects and that they are less than dealing with the psoriasis.
