Hello there everybody!

Just introducing myself, if that is okay. I have been reading through the forum for a few days and everybody seems very kind and helpful  Wave !

I don't wish to bore anybody, so will just give a brief recap. I first developed psoriasis four years ago at the grand old age of 36. It advanced fairly aggressively from a few patches on my scalp to fairly large-scale plague psoriasis coverage - including on my face; ye baxtards! - nail psoriasis, and the unfettered joy that is inverse psoriasis. I tried topical steroids for a while but no joy. In fact, I got way slap happy with the fecking things and ended up with some fairly horrible skin damage  Sad .

Anyway, I started on Fumaderm Initial three weeks ago and am beginning the first day of Fumaderm full strength tomorrow. Side effects not terribly nasty yet.... Just wondering if any Fumaderm users recall how long it took to see an improvement? I check all my various scaly bits every day hoping to see a clear bit emerging, but no joy yet!

Thank you in advance for any info or advice. It is so nice to know there are other people who understand the various horrors and embarrassments of the psoriasis sufferer. I had to buy a little hand-held vacuum cleaner to clean up under my work desk at the end of every day. Scarlet for me!

If anybody is kind enough to reply and I do not respond, please forgive me. It might be tomorrow morning before I get a chance to come back!

Hope you are all doing well  Thumb .

Hi there and. Big  Welcome  to the forum yes we are a friendly lot, the site is very active and although small in membership it has all the support and advice about most medications you could hope for
Fumaderm my favourite drug, why well because for me as a much older person than you I have had the misery of constantly sweeping scales and embarrassing " dandruff" as people think ....constantly hiding your skin , as I say I've had it for years until around  three and a half years ago when I took my first Fumaderm tablet
Since then at least three years clear or mainly clear

How long does it take its a good question, it varies for me it must have been about two and a half months before I saw any improvement, but I stayed positive and was rewarded. The side effects of flushing and abdominal cramps although annoying ( understatement) they are a sign the therapy is working
See Fumaderm leaflet it's pretty comprehensive

When it does begin to work if you are like me it begins to clear quickly....
Come back as often as you like and ask away,  there is often someone to answer your questions or if not immediately fairly quickly.

I will let others tell you more about the site
Jim
Ps I was going to welcome you by your name but I couldn't put ( welcome I love Dean Winchester or you would get jealous  Big Grin )

Hello ILDW  Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

That was a bit of Fred text speak  Big Grin

It most certainly is ok introducing yourself to the rest of us, we encourage all new members to post and I'm very pleased to hear you think "everybody seems very kind and helpful" we work very hard to keep Psoriasis Club friendly and the feedback is welcome thank you.   Thumb

You will never bore us and your information could be of help to others, so just keep on posting. I can't help with Fumaderm, and you have already met Jim, but I'm sure you will get more later from the DMF gang (Fumaderm contains DMF) but there are lot's of Fumaderm threads to read.

As for not responding don't worry, yes we like to hear back from people but we understand people have a life to live away from psoriasis. We're not doctors or professionals, we're just people like you with psoriasis and some of us enjoy helping others if they can. We just do it because we can and expect nothing in return, if people do get the chance to come back we appreciate it but it's not obligatory. (Oh and we will never ask you to sweep up after your visit)   Smile

Regards.

Fred.

Hi ILDW,

Welcome on the forum.
Certainly do speak out on your experiences with fumaderm. I more like to say, DMF, because DMF is the working ingredient of Fumaderm, the rest of what is in the pills has no effects on your psoriasis.
I am one of the DMF gang, and I have written on the workings of DMF in my DMF thread, for you a nice excersize to try to find it Big Grin

It takes a few months, like Jim said, before it starts working, at least, before you see results. It is working beforehand already.

Have fun over here, and don't forget to visit the Off Topic section !

Cheers,
Caroline

Thanks so much everybody for your kind welcomes. I'm loving this place already  Big Grin !

It's really wonderful to talk with people who understand what psoriasis is all about. I mean, I'm not glad that you are all suffering too, but it makes me fell less abnormal to know others go through the same trials. Hope that makes sense!

JimL and Caroline, I am so encouraged by your positive experience with Fumaderm. It's great to hear and makes me very hopeful. The idea of having clear or almost clear skin again is, well, just beautiful. To be able to wear short sleeves in the summer and shorts on holidays. To be able to get my hair cut and styled by a professional!

As a by the by, I often think it must be that bit harder for blokes with psoriasis to manage some of the aesthetic aspects. I can somewhat disguise the scales on my face with make-up; I can cover up the nail pitting and discolouration reasonably successfully with polish; and my longish hair and fringe helps to disguise some of the plagues on my scalp and neck. Those options are not available to the same extent for men  Sad .

Fred, I love that - "No need to sweep up after your visit!" Thank you so much!! I feel my house is never fully clean these days. Every surface seems to collect a dusting of flakey bits  Rolleyes !

Gilly, as Bav clocked, the gorgeous Dean Winchester is a character in the long-running TV show "Supernatural". I loves him  Heart ! Check it out; it's great fun, sometimes scary and generally class!

Thanks again for your kind post everybody. I'll check in again soon to see how you all are doing and let you know how the Fumaderm is treating me  Wave .

Thanks for the long reply, yes Bav was quick off the mark regarding " supernatural" I will have to look it up but I looked at him .... What can I say not a patch on me  Big Grin

Glad to be here if ever you need to know anything about Fumaderm there is a wealth of information and we are all usually quick to respond. Look forward to the summer and be positive it should be you best summer yet if the pesky Fumaderm does its work and you can tolerate the side effects...

I always thought it was harder for you girls as you are more concerned with your persona, as a bloke I just kept covered as much as possible and avoided people if my face was bad
Thank goodness I haven't had to worry about that for over three years and believe me it is liberating
Well ILDW I hope you keep us updated on your journey with Fumaderm as it will help you to know when it started working the severity of the side effects and will certainly help others starting on the same journey

Do try to record your blood results so you can keep track as well as the hospital
I look forward to reading more of you experience
Jim
