I wasn't for a minute thinking there was a definitive answer and I assumed mush depends on personal experience and what the consultant will do. I often say "it depends" in my job roll and it pS people off so I can accept that. It helps to prepare for what may lie ahead that is all.

My P is coming back quite aggressively so I can only fight it currently with dovobet but hopefully the MTX will kick in quickly as it did last time.

Sorry if we've spoken about it before (I've been drinking home made plum liqueur, and I can't be bothered to check) But have you asked about the possibility of getting Stelara?
I'm just thinking as you work away from home a lot and it's three months between shots it could be an ideal solution.

I'm jealous now your having a drink!

No we have not mentioned Stelera, I am unfamiliar with everything apart from MTX. I only obviously had a short dabble with MTX as well and it worked really well. Obvious concerns about the long term but also maybe exhausting the effectiveness of one before moving to another.

It is only this year has been manic away from home normally would not be such an issue and as long as I can plan ahead I can work things in.

I agree with Fred have a real think about Stelara because if you can get it I think that you would be great on that, I took MTX for nine years and I used to be away staying in Hotels ,it was not much fun. Stelara was the best thing that happened to me after many many other treatments .

My psoriasis seems to be stabilising after stopping MTX and now restarting it. I took my third dose last night and still have no side effects. I only hope that it works as well as it did last time.

Still have a way to go until it clears up but it certainly seems to not be getting worse now but I was suprised how quickly it returned.

Great news it's started working again, and no side effects , let's hope it will work this time like before.
Good luck

That is good, Pingu. At least there are no surprises with a treatment you know.

Cheers,

Bill

Well its early days and I don't want to get my hopes up. My psoriasis was returning and felt quite aggressive, that seems to have eased off for now so hopefully it will have slowed and start to recede.

If it follows the path like last time it should start to have a positive effect in the next two weeks as all of the patches are very small but they were quite itchy, thats stopped now as well which I always see as a good sign.

Not getting side effects is an obvious bonus but I think I need to get it under control in the medium to long term and discuss other less toxic treatments with the consultant. I will have to ask about Stelera but have no idea what the future holds. Stay on MTX for a while to see how it goes then change when I need to or look at Stelera early on to change. It is a mine field.

What has surprised me is that they will not be taking as many blood tests, one every 6 weeks but maybe that's because I got through the first course without any detrimental effects.

I hope it continues to work for you.

There are so many treatments available that it's worth considering what you think is best for you long term. The great part about this forum is that you'll get honest answers from people on the ups and downs of most all treatments which is good info when discussing things with your doctor.

Good luck!

Hi Kat

I appreciate that, my God even when I started and Fred was giving me the full skull and cross bones on MTX he was supportive. Obviously like every medicine different people respond differently and with psoriasis it is often a lifestyle adjustment. I much prefer taking a tablet to the lotions and potions but then I am not allowed a beer.

I fully intend sitting down with the consultant and asking what next how do we go forwards and what are the alternatives. There is also the transition from one to another to consider. I know even the few weeks my psoriasis came back was a huge body blow, much bigger than I expected it to be.

The support here is phenomenal with people having been on that journey, I much prefer that kind of advice than from those that only read the label and prescribe it.

I am sure that I can look to say there are enough therapies available now to stay relatively clear for the next 10 years in which time other new treatments may become available. The last week it has really started to kick in and ease off a little another week I feel I will be clear or there abouts again which is great so I can get swimming again.
