So after an unsuccessful 3 and a half months on fumaderm I'm now trying methotrexate. I was given a test pack yesterday by my dermatologist which is x2 2.5mg pills. Was told to take them both at the same time and then get blood tested 3 days after and then 7 days after. If they come back fine then I'm all set to start properly in a couple of weeks.

So I'll be updating this thread every so often with how I'm getting on.

Took the test pills yesterday with no problems. I don't know if the dose was high enough to get side effects or even when they are likely to occur? I hear the next day?

I took injections and started with 10mg or 7,5mg. Don't remember correctly but it is probably in my journal... But anyway, first week I didn't have any side effects, it was only when I came on higher dosage I experienced extreme fatigue.

I’m sorry the Fumaderm didn’t work out for you. It goes to prove that there is no magic drug that works for everyone, but you gave it a fair try and it didn’t work out, let’s hope methotrexate works well for you and gives you clearance, it worked well for me when I was on it, but had to give it up in the end. But we are all different and I hope you have a good experience with methotrexate and will follow your progress with great interest ??

Curious as to how methotrexate works.. I know it suppresses the immune system but find it fascinating it can do that from taking it once a week (I assumed it was an every day thing). So you take your dose and it manages to keep your immune system suppressed all week until the next dose?

Yes, MTX is only take once a week - this is the only safe way to take the drug (liver toxicity increases if taken more than once a week).

Best of luck with the MTX and don't forget to take the Folic Acid. I had good results from it but , as Jim said, it shows how we are all different so hopefully you will be OK regarding the side effects, again this may be different for you but I had to be careful what I ate avoiding potential things that could have bugs in them and don't forget no alcohol.

good luck with the MTX! The folic acid is a must, I agree.
... couldn't be my drug, since I'm on a Merlot diet, as much as I can get away with =]

I am so surprised at you two, you should be teetotaller like what I am.
Don't forget not to take the folic acid on the day you take the MTX.
